Ironically, I have an Eleanor that I'm desperately trying to keep from becoming just another Ellie. I don't understand why people keep trying to force it on her -- we already have an Allie in the house. Isn't that enough? And Eleanor has so many other beautiful nicknames but literally not a week goes by when people don't say to me, "Are you going to call her Ellie?"
NO! Jeez!
Anyway, here's something for you. Go to baby name wizard -->namefinder --. girl, and Must have this letter sequence" -- pick "el."
I like Ella a lot and ALMOST named DD that. Now she has a friend in daycare who goes by Ellie. I recently found out that Elli's full name is Eledora (not sure on spelling.. elladora?), which I thought was pretty.

The Ellie's I know are named Elizabeth and Gabriella. I have a neice named Elise, and while the nn could work, I think Ellie would kind of hide the beauty of her name (plus, Elise is so short and easy to say that it really doesn't need a nn unless the parents just really want that nn).
Re: Formal Names For "Ellie"
Aww... I love Eleanor!
How about Elisabeth or Eloise?

I know 6 baby Ellie's right now, and their full names are:
Eliana, Ellis, Elizabeth (x2), Ellen, and one just Ellie.
x3. This question gets asked all the time here, and I feel like I'm really missing the boat on this one...what is so awesome about Ellie?
