Daycare and making your own babyfood

What do you bring the food in (containerwise)? Any links would be helpful? Then do you tell daycare what to feed when?

Re: Daycare and making your own babyfood

  • We got the Toss Away brand containers at Wal-Mart. I write his name on them and half I've written "Breakfast" and the other half "Lunch"

Breakfast I usually thaw out for them so it is ready to go when he is ready and lunch I leave the cubes frozen.

I got mine at BRU.  They are a pain to close sometimes, but they stay that way and the DCP just rinses them out so she doesn't deal with the closing issue.

Since they're clear, it's usually obvious which is the fruit and which is the veggie.  Like Courtney, I take them out the night before and let them thaw in the fridge.

our daycare provides us with labels that we write the contents and date on & then I just let them know what time to feed her depending on her schedule for the morning.

  • I think it also depends on how you freeze the food. If you freeze individual servings like PP does in the containers, you just grab them an go. I freeze all of mine in ice cube trays, then transfer the cubes to zip lock bags, so in the mornings I just grab X # of cubes and put them in the containers.

We got these from BRU and use these as well.  They are definitely a pain to close sometimes!

And when I make more than I have those containers for, I use ice cube trays and so I bring a cube or two in a Tommy Tippee container with a lid and spoon set.

I do freeze in ice cube trays and put in ziplock bags....that is why I am trying to find what is easy to transfer for daycare.

I use these and I LOVE them. I haven't had any issues with them cracking or having a hard time opening them. I bought them from the website www.inchbug.com

They also have some labels that I bought so in very small writing I can put the date the food was made & what it is.

Oooo!  Ouch!  I will have to be extra careful - thanks!

This is what we use. As you can see it will hold one portion so you won't have to tell them a specific amount. They also stack which is really nice, especially for the fridge at daycare.

  • I just freeze in ice cube trays and put the frozen cubes in labled ziploc bags.  We take a couple bags of whatever I made over the weekend every Monday, and daycare just keeps them there in their freezer to use throughout the week.  That way we dont have to take individual servings every day.

For feeding at home though, I just stick a couple cubes of whatever in one of the Take n Toss cups with a lid and put it in the fridge to thaw overnight.  Seems like that would work fine for taking to DC as well.
