Aquarium or Children's Museum??

My nephews (2  & 5) are coming to town on Thursday, and we were thinking of taking them to either the Aquarium or the Children's Museum.  Do you recommend one over the other?  Know of any places to get discounted tickets for either?

Re: Aquarium or Children's Museum??

  • If it were me, I'd choose the Children's Museum.  There is a LOT to do there and kids love it.  There's something for everybody!  My boys are 1.5 and 3.5, and to be honest, neither of them gets excited about the aquarium at all.  They love to play hands-on, and I think the Children's Museum is better for that.

I can't help with discount tickets though.

  • Children's Museum.  There is SOOO much to do!

According to my speech therapist, her kids preferred the other museums.  They were less crowded and there was lots to do for them to do there too.

  • I'm in the minority here but I strongly dislike the Childrens Museum... Not only is it expensive but it just seems so dingy and dirty to me... We only go 2x a year and I swear the kids always get sick the week after being there (though I'm a huge germophobe I admit!) The little ones (age up to 3) seem to enjoy it but its pretty boring IMO.
I love the aquarium and the kids I nanny for PT (ages 6 and almost 3) want to go all the time. My 19 month old loves it too...Plus there is SO much to do at Newport on the levee...

  • Agreed on the Children's Museum - there's so much more to do and see there.

  • I have taken my neices to both and they both love the Childrens Museum by far the most.  It is huge and so much fun.  The Aquarium seems kind of small to me and not much hands on.

  • We have passes to the aquarium and my kids enjoy it. It can be a quick trip thought, so if your're looking for a longer outing, I'd go with the museum. I do know that you can get discount tickets to the aquarium if you're a AAA member.
