Things are kind of iffy right now regarding DH's job. He works in hospitality (I hope that's the last field Adrian thinks about getting into!!) where job stability sucks. They got rid of the last general manager at his hotel and when the new one started, he got rid of two executives, one of them being DH's friend from Florida (and the one who got him his job here). My DH says the new GM likes him but he's still worried about his job. Because they're going to hire a new director to manage the department DH works in. So it's very possible that the new director may be an a-hole and DH can lose his job in a second. Not to be pessimistic, but in a nutshell, DH's job is not safe right now.
I told him not to panic and that his job could last a week, 6 months, a year, who knows, but it doesn't look like it's going to end that soon. So we'll work on his resume together and see what's out there.
I really hope he has this job for a while b/c my PT job is going really well and the woman I help likes me and is giving me an entire magazine to work on. This is great for me and my career and I don't want to have to quit b/c we need to relocate. On the other hand, we can't live on my salary and we need DH's job benefits.
I guess what I'm asking is for lots of good vibes our way so that we can stay here at least another year and that our jobs will be OK.
This economy is sucky, my cousin didn't get her teacher's contract renewed (after 10 years at that school!) and my younger brother lost his job last week (a hotel job too).
Geez, Louise!!
Re: Need good job vibes for DH
<<<Vibes>>>
Sadly, I understand all too well. At least things are marginally better with my DH's job. Mine, however, is tenuous since the business is doing very poorly.

From what little I know about the hospitality/hotel industry, it's pretty sucky, long hours, not that great of pay, etc. Not a lot of people stick with it to retirement.. ya know what I mean? That's one of those industries I always call a "young person's" job... more of a temporary thing until they decide what they really want to do for a career.
Is there any chance your DH would start looking for a more stable job/industry? Even if that means getting more education? Now would be the time to do it, since he still is employed.
Wishing you good job vibes.

Good vibes have been sent.
There is no such thing as job security and "stable industry" right now. I work in a large pharma company and we have had way too many layoffs recently, My new long-distance boss was visiting last week and he couldn't believe how empty the site looks now.
