Cloth Diapers anyone?

Does anyone else cloth diaper or planning to cloth diaper? I'm seriously considering it..If you currently do it, do you find it just as easy as disposables? What brand do you use or plan to use?

  • I've started my stash. The general idea I've gotten is to buy a few of several to see what you like. I've been watching ebay for deals.

The cloth diapering board is really helpful on recognizing brands. Their Q&A is really good too.

  • We did with until DS was 14 months. He started to get rashes causing us to stop, but think I just need to strip my dipes, which I just might due today Big Smile ) We also plan to have our new baby in the cloth dipes. Anyway, we started with prefolds with Thirsties covers and once he hit about 10 lbs., we moved to BumGenius 3.0 one-size (they are adjustable and "grow" with your baby).

I LOVED cloth diapering and was very proud to do it. Yes, it is more work, but I never found it annoying.  Washing them sure beats having the stinky disposables in his room like we do now.

There is so much stuff out there about CD and it can be overwhelming.  I would check out the cloth diaper board and lurk for a bit to see what you can learn.

  • Also, Jillian's Drawers has this thing where you can get all different types of dipes to try out. You return what you don't want and pay for what you keep. I didn't do it, but I know a lot of people have and it worked really well for them.

  • We are planning to cloth diaper, and recently started our stash.  After doing a lot of research, we are going to go primarily with bumGenius 4.0 pocket diapers.  We also started a cloth diaper registry on kellyscloset.com.  I'm pretty excited about this decision...the more I research CD, the more into it I am!

  • Thanks for the feedback! From what i hear, bumgenius seems to be the most popular. Our sister in law uses them also and seems to really like them. I think we will still do disposables for the first couple/few months so we can ease into it. I'll do some lurking on the cloth diapering board also to see what it's all about.

  • DS is two now and we've been CDing him from the very beginning.  One of the best resources I've found online is www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com  They have a great tutorials section that covers everything from choosing a detergent, to how to strip your diapers should it ever be necessary, to myths vs. facts, etc.  It is a great place to peruse to get lots of info in one place.  I have never purchased from them though.  We use Blueberry one-size pocket dipes with DS and have really liked them a lot (you can find great deals on Blueberry and Swaddlebee diapers by shopping their clearance/sale section when they stock it; that's how we got our entire stash on the cheap)!.  We use the snaps because they've got more longevity that way, and the velcro/aplix has a tendency to irritate his skin.  We've never had rash problems and washing diapers is really way easier than most folks think.  The only time I've been tempted to switch to disposables was when we moved to Italy where the water is very very hard and we were having serious build-up issues with our diapers because of it.  It did take me about a month to figure out a washing routine that worked with the hard water we have here, but once I figured it out we were back in cloth diaper happy land again :)  Even DH loves using cloth diapers!

  • We still use cloth diapers for our son and plan to do so until he's potty trained.  We will also use them for baby #2.  We use Cloth-eez Prefold Diapers.  You can buy them from www.greenmountaindiapers.com

We use Bum Genious for nighttime.  Although I like them, I have to say I wouldn't use them for daytime - they're very bulky.

    Good luck!

  • We're planning on going to prefolds with covers route! I'm really excited about it!

  • I will be using bumgenius 4.0 with snaps. My SIL and some other friends use them and all love them.

  • I tried it. Jillian's Drawers runs a sampler of a few different dipes that you can try for a month or so and return. I tried it, but I really suck at keeping up on laundry and it wasn't something I was really gung-ho about (really just liked the money-saving aspects of it), so I returned my stash at the end of the trial period. And since then, with the coupons Amazon has been running, I've been scoring VERY good deals on disposables, too. I actually got an 84 pack of newborns for free a couple weeks ago.

  • We use the Flip diaper covers which grow with baby. We also use a diaper service in town which is convenient.

  • We use them with DS #2, and will use them with this LO. We have a few Bumgenius, but most of our stash is the Flip system. I much prefer the Flip system over any other diaper that we've tried.

  • It's our plan too! So far, we have a mix of prefolds and pockets.  With the prefolds, we're using thirsties duo wraps covers (newborn-18lbs) and the same wraps (size 2) along with some econobum covers for when baby gets older.  We have BG4.0's as our pockets, and will be getting some BG Elementals to finish out our stash  We'll be using the pockets for daycare, most likely.

  • We are planning on doing both. I just purchased the G cloth diapers at BRU yesterday and the liners.
  • We are going to buy a bunch and see what we like.  But on one of the cloth boards that I stock a lot of the ladies use sunbabies diapers.  They are a one size pocket diaper.  They come in cute prints and you can get 12 for 60 bucks including the inserts.  These will be part of our try out.  I also have bought from a local wahm, so cute but a little bit more money.  If you find anything great be sure to post.

  • I plan on cloth diapering at least 50% of the time, and I think I'll be using GroVia's.  They seem to be really highly rated and they're adjustable so you wont need to keep buying more and more as baby grows.

If you or someone you know has a Costco card they have a great "starter set" for $139 online which I plan on getting!  Should be a good start!

    :)

  • We currently cloth diaper with our first child and will do it for our second as well!  It's just as easy, but you do have the added step of rinsing, drying, and folding them.

We use many brands and it's evolved throughout DD's diaper days.  As she got older and got bigger, certain "one size" brand didn't fit her any longer (grobaby) and as she started wetting more, certain brands didn't hold much.

We use a mix of pocket and one size.

If you're ok w/ used diapes, you can check out diaperswappers.com.  I've gotten alot of great deals on there.  If you're "grossed out" by used diapes, be happy to know that there are also brand new ones for a discounted price that people just didn't end up using.

    Have fun!!

  • We're going with cloth diapers. Luckily, there's a great diaper service in our town that provides organic cotton diapers and doesn't bleach. It'll be more expensive than laundering them on our own, but still half the price of disposables. With both DH and I working full time, a diaper service is the only way we could do this.

  • Sometimes it's a pain- the little ones can fill them with some AWFUL things. :P But I like it too. I have a variety as I didn't know what I would like, but I think Happy Heinys are still my favorites. Be prepared to allow some flexibility and use disposables- ie daycare/sitters/gparents may not comply, diarrhea, etc.

We ordered the newborn sizes version of this. A lot seems to depend on the individual build of your baby so I figured a variety of brands/styles was important.

  • Yes, I am using cloth with my son and plan on using them with the next baby as well.  I love them!

I use a diaper service.  I noticed that you live in Rochester Hills, MI.  I also live in Michigan.

You should check out Dirty Deeds Diaper Service.  It is soooooo much easier to use a service.  It is totally worth the money.
