OK So I just read an article about keeping your child in a rear facing carseat up to two years old...Now we have a Graco Snugride 35 which holds up to 35lbs. rear facing but I was planning on switching DS to a Convertible Carseat about 1 month before the new baby arrives.
So my question is I have heard that there are convertible carseats that do rearfacing and if so any suggestions on which ones? Or is it logical to buy another infant carrier when DS will soon out grow his any ways at least in length??
I am so confused! TIA
Re: New to these Carseats???
I would buy a convertible carseat that also rear faces...I'm pretty sure they all do...that's what makes them convertible, but just double check.
I don't think it would be at all logical to buy another infant seat, plus your DS probably won't be very comfortable in it much longer (they recline a lot more than the convertible one's do).
We have the Britax Advocate and DS is still rear facing.
I would get a convertible if I were you. You can then use the the infant carrier for your new arrival. We love our Britax. We have the Boulevard 70, which will go up to 40 rear-facing. It is nice that the Snugrude goes up to 35 for rear, but most babies seem to outgrow the height requirement way before they reach 35 lbs. The Britax go up to 49 inches for height. Cosco convertible is a $ saving option, but we got one and hated it. Britax was really worth the extra $ for ease of use.
We switched DD over to her convertible (rear-facing) last spring. Once it's warmer weather, it's easier to not have to lug the infant seat everywhere. We use a True Fit. We can have her rear-facing in there to 35lbs, but once she hits 35lbs, we'll likely put her in a car seat with a rear-facing limit of 45lbs. The longer you can keep LOs rear-facing, the better.
So I would buy a convertible with a high rear-facing limit (35 or 45lbs) for DS and put the new baby in the infant seat when he/she is born. Then when DS hits the limit for the rear-facing, you can turn the whole car seat around until he hits the limit for forward-facing.

I didn't care to buy a high weight limit infant seat because there was no way I could carry it past 20 lbs any way...Im weak, lol.
We have Evenflo Triumphs and Britax Roundabouts for our convertible seats...love them both for their ease of use, ease of cleaning and installation. The Roundabouts are great for travel because they have a small base and narrow seat. The Triumphs have a 50 lb. weight limit which should get us through to first grade. That's when I will most likely feel comfortable putting them in a belt-positioning booster.
