I have been loving my gymboree membership for DS and jumped at a great deal (6 mo for $120 off regular price). I'm due in June with our second LO and the staff graciously welcomed me to bring LO#2 along to any of DS's classes. I just thought about germs though...I definitely won't bring LO#2 before he's 4 weeks old but how long would you/did you wait to bring your second along with you and LO#1? TIA
Re: gymboree moms
Our ped said no playdates at our home until he's 4 weeks old (we do one almost every weekend with DS1s friends). She also (2 weeks ago) recommended waiting til "respiratory" season ended in a couple of weeks (so around now). After that time, most (obviously not all) germs are touching, etc so as long as I don't let others touch DS2 without washing hands, then I feel a bit better. As it is, DS1 has only touched his little brother on the feet and only after washing his hands or bathing (depending on the time of day).
More specific to your question, I'll be taking DS2 to Gymboree in 2 weeks (DS2 will be 4 weeks old) and will just wear him in the Moby and not let anyone touch him. I've missed going because we usually make it a family activity. DH will do the activities with DS1.
Well, I guess I am the bad one, because I brought DD when she was 8 days old to DS's Little Gym class. DH came too and he did the activites with DS while I watched through the window and fed DD.
A week later, I brought the two of them alone (DH was back at work and I was alone with the 2 kids). DD just sat in her car seat in the snap and go stroller. I put a blanket on her in the corner of the room and no one bothered her. I just Purelled my hands before I touched her. She did fine!
We actually stopped going to Little Gym when DD was 7 months old. She would still sit in her infant seat in the snap and go stroller, but was starting to get antsy. I was feeling guilty for making her just sit there alone, so we didn't sign up for the next session. We are moving soon, and in our new town there is a Gymboree. I am excited because it looks like they have a "family class" so both DS and DD can be in class together. We have been missing doing a gym class!
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. We took DD out (Target, mall, etc) starting when she was just a few days old and she never got sick. We obviously didn't let people touch her and we washed our own hands before touching her, but she was fine. And that was February/March, I think June is even better because you're really out of cold season.
As PPs suggested, just keep the baby in her baby seat away from the action or wear her. I think you'd go nuts staying home for a month or more with a toddler and newborn! GL

*please excuse my typos, bumping from my iphone*
We were back to ALL our regular activities when DD2 was 3 weeks old (Gymboree, library story time, playgroups, etc..). I just kept DD2 in her infant seat away from all the kids and she usually just slept the whole time. No big deal at all
FYI, Gymboree offers family music classes where the second child/sibling is free until 13 months and can participate! Such a great deal
Once DD2 was 6months old and I could no longer bring her along to DD1's regular gymboree class, we switched to family music and they both loved it!
