Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Just a thought..

The boppy post earlier sort of made me think about this.. They say a boppy can be a suffocation hazard, and I am in no way doubting this of course, cause we all know crazy things can happen with LO. But what I'm wondering is why other "baby safe" items aren't considered a suffocation hazard. A few examples would be the head support for DS carseat- its the kind that you just place around his head, without the back part to go into the car seat through the straps. The package says newborn+ with no warnings of possible suffocation. On several occasions I have gotten him out of the car and he has some how managed to turn his head so his face is pressed up against the side of it, or the head support has fallen down across his face. Then there is DS car seat cover, which is pretty intense in my mind. This thing is so thick and heavy, and when its zipped totally up you can barely see his face, and at times the flap will flip over covering him entirely. The cover is made of the same materials as a winter jacket, and has a fleece lining, so its pretty thick. Im wondering how the hell this wouldnt suffocate my baby if i wasn't so diligent with checking to make sure it stays open to let air in. (please look at this thing, seriously..https://www.amazon.com/7A-M-ENFANT-Footmuff-Converts-Stroller/dp/B0017TU2W4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300850454&sr=8-1)

  • If it were up to my LO, bibs would be a suffocation hazard. She sleeps in one because she spits up frequently due to reflux and I've checked on her several times and she's managed to flip it over her face even though she's swaddled tight.
