Infertility

IVF #1 may be cancelled

I am so upset right now. When I went in for my follie check yesterday I was told that they were concerned with the fact that I was progressing too quickly (I had 9 follies measuring around 10-12) and once they got my b/w results in I would either 1) get a call to change the dose, or 2) if I didn't get a call keep everything the same.

I didn't get a call yesterday.

I called the RE's office today just to make sure they didn't forget to call me. Well they did call...my husband's cell phone and left him a message which he didn't get until I told him to check his messages this afternoon. His cell phone was listed as an alternate phone number, mine was the primary. The thought did cross my mind yesterday to have him check his messages but it came and went quickly and I never did so.

I was told to back my dosage down by 100iu tonight, but was warned that we may have to cancel this cycle if I am "over cooked". I go in tomorrow morning to find out if we will be able to continue the cycle or not. I don't understand canceling, couldn't they just move my ER earlier??

Anyone else ever go through something similar? Do you get a refund for the cycle? What about medication...is it reasonable to ask for the RE to provide me with samples of what medications we wasted?

Re: IVF #1 may be cancelled

  • I had this issue too. I responded really well to the meds really fast. So my clinic cut back my dosage to 25iu of Follistim and 75iu of Menupor and moved my ER up by 2 days.

I would definitely talk to your RE about moving your ER up if you are responding to your meds better than expected.

I had asked my doctor about this along with many other questions during my IVF consult. He said that sometimes he will let a couple "over cook" in order to get more that are the right size. However since you have a more than a few that are maturing quickly I am not sure what they will do... do you have some that are smaller as well as those that are maturing quickly? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers - please keep us updated!

  • Oh man.. that's awful.. I hope you don't have to cancel.  Good luck to you and I hope everything works out.

Thanks for the input. The RE himself is out of town until Thursday so I have been dealing with RN's the whole time. I was at 300iu of Follistim, they have me down to 200iu of Follistim for tonight. I am going to ask for a phone call with the RE if they say we need to cancel in the morning.

Thanks Emily! I am really not sure if there were more smaller follies, because I couldn't see the u/s screen and they didn't say anything about other little ones. This is a new RE and the last office I went to had large flat screens on the wall so the patient could see the u/s. Every time I had follie checks with my last RE I could see a bunch of little follies that they didn't even count because they were too little. I have a very strong feeling that this cycle is going to be a bust. Thank you for the prayers...I need them!

  • Thanks Ladies!

I just made a list of all the little things that the RN has messed up since the beginning of this process. She has made 3 MAJOR mistakes. 1 of which has probably effected many IVF patients (she gave me incorrect instructions in regards to running out of medication with the Follistim Pen, she told me if that happens take the # in the window and subtract it from the total dose. The Instruction booklet for the pen clearly states that the # in the window is what you have left to inject). So if I do get cancelled tomorrow I am asking for a FULL refund + the amount I lost on medications and going back to my original RE. MH is an attorney so if they want to fight we are ready!

  • Oh no, I hope that you can get everything figured out.  I was only on 150iu of Follistim and then 75 and I was afraid I wouldn't have any follies to do the IVF for the first few checks.  I hope they can slow you down and let you coast and everything will work out!!  I'm praying for you!
  • Ugh, that is so frustrating.  I hope they get it straight and you can proceed.  GL!
