Making the Switch--Advice and Recs wanted

After one too many asthma flair ups from cleaning my bathroom I want to switch to a more lung and environmentally friendly alternative.

I used to use Soft Scrub on my bathtub and sink, then tried replacing it with Scrubbing Bubbles.  They both kill my lungs for hours afterwards. So it's time to get smart and I figure here would be the best place to start.

What green cleaners do you recommend?  I've tried the vinegar thing and I am not so pleased with the cleaning it give for my bathtub/sinks.

Re: Making the Switch--Advice and Recs wanted

  • For the tub I use a little Dr Bronners castile soap, borax and Mr Clean magic eraser.

  • I make my own, using combinations of Borax, Vinegar, Baking Soda, Dr. Bronner's, etc.  For a quick solution, if you have a stubborn stain on your counter or want to clean grout, you can use baking soda and dish detergent (Dawn, etc) to make a "comet" type cleaner.  Vinegar alone is great for windows and surfaces.  If you google "homemade bathroom cleaner" you'll probably come up with some good and easy recommendations :)
  • I don't make my own so I use Seventh Generation products.

    I do this!

  • You might like the cream scrub that Ecover makes, as a replacement for your soft scrub.  Later you can make your own if you want.  Or not.
