Babies: 6 - 9 Months

stomach sleeping at 6 months.

When did you let your LO sleep on their stomach without turning them over.  DD only wants to sleep on her stomach now.  For naps I have let her.  She is asleep on her stomach now for the night.  She just won't stay on her back.  She rolls from back to stomach but not so much back onto her back.  She lifts her head well and can sit up though.

Re: stomach sleeping at 6 months.

  • I never not let my daughter. When she started rolling in her sleep and would end up on her stomach I just let her.  SIDS goes way down after 6 months.  I took all of the other precautions at night time (still do).  She has breathable bumpers and sleeps with nothing in her crib but herself.  I think it is ok at this point and everything I've read said that too :)

  • DD is a tummy sleeper, once she rolled that way I just left her on her stomach. I asked the Ped. and she said it's fine once they can roll on their own to leave them.

Still makes me a little nervous but she rolls over every time we put her down so I'm not fighting her on it.

  • V has been doing this for almost 5 weeks now. Our pedi said it was alright since she can move her head and roll over on her own. I checked on her a lot the first week and a half bc I was so paranoid, but now it is the only way she will fall asleep.

  • If they roll that way themselves, its fine.

  • When we ditched the swaddle at around 5 months, he became a tummy sleeper.  Once they can roll both ways on their own, it's fine.
  • That was us, too. I still get nervous though!

  • As soon as she started busting out of the swaddle and rolling over to sleep on her stomach, we let her. We don't have anything else in her crib (no bumper).
  • DS has been sleeping on his stomach since about 8 weeks old, as recommended by my pedi.  And once they start rolling, I'm not even sure how you could control that!
  • My DS started rolling back and forth at 4 1/2 months and we have left him alone since then.  We have never rolled him back over to his back and our pedi said not to.  He said that once they roll over on their own their isn't anything you can do and that the risk of SIDS goes way down after they do this.  I'm sure you DD will be fine...I'd let her sleep however she wants to.

  • When he rolled there himself, which was not long after we stopped swaddling.  We kept him in Halo Sleepsacks (no loose blankets), so no worries about getting tangled in loose blankets.
