Payton Hope's birth story (sorry a little long)

Hello.  Sorry this is a little delayed but we have been busy!

Last Thursday (St Patty's Day) was the day for our scheduled c-section.  DH and I were scheduled be to at the hospital at 7am.  We got there a little early and things were pretty quiet on the L&D floor.  They got me in triage, our parents showed up, and we started talking to the nurse and anesthesiologist about what was going to happen drug wise.  They offered to give me a 24 hour pain med before my spinal, I opted for traditional pain meds after.  The main reason being that the bad side effect of the 24 hour pain med is itching.  After having PUPPPS that is the last thing I wanted!

I let them know that I am not a needle fan, we chalked my "higher" BP up to that.  The nurse started the IV (not bad).  Then they actually started moving me back to the OR a little early.  DH and I said see you to our parents.  He put on his gear and they rolled me back.  The spinal was not bad either.  It works FAST.  I was surprised!  They got me all set up and brought in DH.

Then the doctors started.  Our anesthesiologist encouraged us to look when she was being pulled out - which I am glad that I did.  DH got to take her right after they cleaned her up and got her vitals.  She scored a 9 and 9 on her APGARs!  We were imediately in love!

Once we were in recovery, I got to hold her and feed her.  Then our parents came back to see her.  My BP was still a little high and got worse as the surgery went on.  I was not aware of this until we got to recovery though.  They though they got the pain meds going but the pump was not working.  So they doped with with a dose right in my IV.  At this point, my parents went to have a quick lunch and DH went with Payton to the nursery.  I slept until DH and DD returned.

By this point they decided to "keep" me in L&D until my BP was under control.  Really all that meant was I would have a nurse from L&D even though we were moved to the family unit.  I was also put on mag sulfate to ward off seizures.  This made me feel like total crap but I was able to still BF.  They kept the cath in until I was off the meds (Friday at about 1pm).

Once I was off the mag, I feel 100 times better.  We came home Sunday afternoon.  Other than the BP scare, recovery has not been bad.  I am still on pain meds but can move, eat, BF, and sleep when I can.  Showering at home is a wonderful thing too!

If you made it this far - great job!!

  • I'm so glad the surgery went well and Payton is here safe and sound! Looking forward to seeing pics!!! :)

My BP went up after delivery too but luckily it never got high enough to require mag. I've heard that's terrible!! Glad you're feeling better. My BP was back down less than a week after he was born and I'm off the BP meds. Hopefully you're all better now too!!

  • congrats again hon!  can't wait to meet her!
