Hi! I am XP this from the multiples board in hopes that I can get some posiive experiences!
TIA!!!
Baby A's water broke yesterday...I think it happened on Sunday and have been in the hospital since then, the initial test in Sunday only showed me having contractions and a positive ffn. I have had 2 steroid shots for their lungs and they have me on some antibitoics to fight off any infections.
The peri and my OB want to get the babies out at 34w. They say that usually when a water breaks early they do all they can to get the babies to 34w. Since I will be 34 tomorrow they want to get them out before any kind of infection has a chance to set in. They are very sure that it is baby a's water that broke and he happens to be sitting right on my cervix so anything that gets in will definitiely get to him.
Please share your positive stories with having 34w babies and back me of the ledge of craziness!!!
Re: Intro and I need some positive experiences!
My first prem was born at 33w 4 days at 5lbs 5oz (yes, a "giant"). I didn't have the steroid shots, so he was on a vent for 2 days and c-pap for a few. He came home after 4 weeks. He is now almost 6, with no issues at all.
Good luck to you. Some advice for when they come: pump as soon as you can, ask for kangaroo care, talk to/sing to your little ones as much as possible!!
Hi Chart!!! I was thinking about you today after reading everything on the PAIF board.
I had mine at 32w3d and they are doing GREAT!!!! Grey was in the NICU for 22 days and Leland was there for 24 days. Grey just needed to gain weight and learn how to eat. Leland had a little bit more of a rough road but is now doing fantastic!! Having to go home without them was really hard, but the NICU is the best place for preemies to grow and thrive. I think 34 weekers normally do pretty well. Hang in there chart! Good Luck!!!!
This exactly. DS was 4lb 9oz. Good luck!
Hi Char! Sorry to see you over here but it is common for twins to come early (right? I don't know that from personal experience). I have no advice for 34 weekers although they do come and go quickly from our NICU so hopefully your LO's will be short timers too.
Good luck! Having a baby way early than you expected is a scary and nerve-wracking experience. Hang in there!
Hello! I remember you from TTC after 35. I am so excited about your baby boys! My water broke close to 31 weeks, and we got baby out that night after 12:19am--gotta to love the all nighter at the ER and labor and delivery. Just to note, I was fully dialated when I got to the hospital. Baby was 4 lbs 9oz when he was born, but he lost water weight by the next day.
I really had to trust the obgyn and nurses as well as the NICU. It worked out. Baby stayed in the NICU/ISCU for 35 days. It can be a rollercoaster. I visited baby every day, and I just had to stay positive. We actually switched our childbirth class to a Taking Care of Newborn and Breastfeeding class, because baby came before we were able to go to the childbirth class.
And he is now a very healthy baby boy who is over 22 lbs. His birthday is in two months. Got to love the "unplanned" birthday. Since we really were not celebrating much when he was born, I am planning a fun 1st birthday party for baby the weekend before his birthday.
I hope that everything goes well today and that your baby boys have a smooth transition into the world.
My water broke at 34wks, they did nothing to stop labor and were going to induce the next day if I didn't go into labor, due to risk of infection. I went into labor on my own, about16hrs after water broke. Only had time for 1 round of steroids.
DD was 4lbs 13oz and 18ins. Had trouble keeping her oxygen levels up, reflux, and gaining weight, and eating, and a VSD. We were in the NICU for 6days, she has reflux(Nexium since about 2mths) VSD closed on its own by 8mths, she has what they call a "floppy windpipe" does not affect breathing anymore (could possibly when infant because of the weakness if got a cold) but is noisy at times. She had some motor delays and issues with eating (gagging and such), and a speech delay. She recieved EI services for PT,OT now only 4 times a year, but we still are going to ST once a week. But she is almost "caught up" in every way.
We have always had trouble gaining weight but seem to be gaining good now.
We had an easy road in the NICU and relatively easy since.
I hope you and your boys have an uneventfull ride in the NICU.
My 32w preemie was in the NICU for 6 days. Overall, she did great.
I know a 33w preemie that didn't even go to the NICU and was discharged after 3 days with his mamma. Good luck!
1998 Ovarian Cancer Survivor. 7 Miscarriages: 6w, 13w2d, 4w2d, 7w4d (DD's twin), 5w. Failed Tubal after c/s (!!): 5w2d, 6w4d
C was a 34 weeker! My water broke on Tuesday evening (slow leak...wasn't even detected with all the tests) and I had a c/s on Wednesday evening. Something interesting I learned from the nurse who was prepping me...it used to be that "they" thought it was good for your water to be broken for a while, because it actually speeds up lung development. Obviously now drs know more about infection, etc, but I really think that the fact that my water was broken a full 24+ hours before she was born helped her. She was only on oxygen for a little bit in the delivery room...not even on it once they took her to the nicu. She was under the warmer for a few days, and was taking her feedings by bottle or finger feeds, but I was able to b/f her by 4 days (although we continued to suppliment with 27cal formula for 8ish weeks). She was quite jaundiced and spent a day under the bili lights, but overall her nicu stay was uneventful. She was in for a week.
Best of luck to you!!!
