MFI Weekly Check In

This group is for those of us dealing with male factor issues.   We
welcome everyone but mostly we are dealing with low count, motility, morphology or all three. Male infertility is a mysterious world filled with questions no one, including REs, urologists, acupuncturists or anyone else seem to have the answers to. Any treatment suggested is a coin toss for success and a 3 month wait for a fresh batch of swimmers. Most of us are told the only answer is IUI or IVF w/ICSI. The purpose of this group is to support each other through shared experiences and to share any info we can because the more informed we are the better.   We have a check in every Sunday night/ Monday morning but I will try to post a link later in the afternoon/evening also. Welcome and baby dust to all!

Update: tentative green light to start stims (confirm when I get home this evening and check my messages) for IVF#1 tonight. Paid the clinic, have my meds- ready to get this done! QOTW: We took a two week road trip from Houston to Seattle stopping for anything that interested us and not picking our hotel until we were ready to stop for the night. (iPad, so no paragraphs, sorry)

Update-IVF 2 cancelled for the 2nd time. Now waiting for an mTESE in June

QOTW-We have been to spain 2x, but the best was a recent trip we took. We went to barcelona for 6 days, then to san sebastian (eating tour lol) for 4 days, and then back to barcelona for 2 day. We had the BEST time!!!

I'm going to try and start posting to this again!

Update: I'm waiting for my next cycle (around April 7th). Once that happens we start stims. Projected ET is 4/21 (Easter Sunday ... still waiting to hear how that's going to work).

QOTW: We don't get to travel much because we both own our own businesses ... However, we had a great trip to Cancun. Relaxing, fun and just great to spend time together.

Start Synarel on April 7. Awaiting to hear when I start Dostinex. Stims should start mid-April. Hoping for a BFP from IVF#2!

QOTW: 5 years ago we spent 3 weeks in southern Spain and Morocco. It was a fabulous trip.

QOTW: We took a long weekend trip to Vermont a few years ago. It was our first trip together and was so awesome! We visited the Teddy Bear factory and Ben & Jerry's -- what's better than teddy bears and ice cream?

It's been a while since I've udated here so:

UPDATE: DH just did an SA last week and there was improvement in motility and morphology, not count. ICSI is still our only way even after surgery and supplements. Also RE told me DE is likely our only option as well. It seems I have had a crappy 2 weeks.

QOTW: Anytime we are away from home and can spend time together without thinking about IF.

QOTW: The only vacation that DH and I have been on is the cruise that we went on for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, that was paid we didn't have to pay for. My grandparents paid for everyone to go on the cruise.

Update-on a break. Doing acupuncture. This cycle was a bust BUT AF was not as wretched as she usually is. We will be taking a break from treatments until May or April.

QOTW: What was the most enjoyable vacation (excluding ur honeymoon you and DH ever took?

Our annual gold prospecting/camping trip! In fact the gold we found, we used it to make our wedding bands. We are alone for a whole week. No traffic. No cats. No noisy and meth head neighbors to annoy us. Just the sounds of nature and the river. Pure bliss.

Update! (I am actually excited about this update because there is some sign of hope for DH Azoo diagnosis). Additional blood work came back and DH has lowish FSH, low testosterone and high Estadial - this sort of confirms the suspicion of the Turek clinic that DH issues might be hormonal and the mapping will go that much better if they can get his hormones in order. So they have started him on Clomid and Arimidex and his next SA will be in 2 - 3 months - keeping my fingers crossed!

As for the QOTW - the best vacation we went on was actually to New Hampshire - we didn't d anything while we were there and just relaxed (something we never do on vacation). I enjoyed spending time with DH and just enjoying the food and visiting the beauty of New Hampshire without a worry in the world. We made no plans to have to see anything or have to do anything while we were there (we own some property in NH but stayed at a bed and breakfast so we could be pampered). I loved it.

Hi, I'm brandywine2010. I'd like to be added to the check-in for MFI.

We are dealing with low motility. DH's numbers have ranged from 10%-32% in motility.

I am also dealing with Endometriosis and I recently had my right tube unblocked during my laparoscopy.

We are in the beginning phases of our 4th IUI cycle. This time we are doing Femara 7.5 mg + Menopur + HCG trigger.

QOTW: Wilmington, NC in the summer of 2009. We went with a group of people but we had an amazing time. Wilmington is a gorgeous city!

Update: Enjoying my break, but ready to get back at it. It's kind of going by fast! Oh and I've lost 5lbs!

QOTW: We haven't been on too many extravagant vacations. He's family has a place at the beach so we go there a lot. We went on a Carnival Cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale and that was lots of fun.

I would never tell DH this b/c he would want to go every year, but my most enjoyable vacation was when we went to Kansas/Kansas City for his 30th birthday to see he's teams-KU basketball and Chiefs play. The we drove over to St. Louis for a day. It has made me want to plan more road trips.

Update: Nothing much to tell.

QOTW: A few years ago we went to western Montana, where my FIL is building a cabin. It's basically a cooperative building project amongst the whole family. It's so beautiful out there--I couldn't believe how amazing the mountains are. We're going again this summer, and we're also going to drive out to the west coast. We're from NH, and I've never been further west than Montana.

We are still in the researching stages. We have an appointment set for April 12 with a new RE to compare costs. Found out some great news that the TESE isn't very expensive. We are probably going to do that soon and see if we are able to get viable sperm. Hopefully they will be able to freeze them. We've heard conflicting opinions on this. Depending on the results we will move forward with IVF/ICSI.

QOTW: We took a long weekend trip to Boston. It was a great time. We did a bunch of site seeing and ate amazing seafood.

Update: Not much new this week, just finished my Femara for this cycle and hoping to do an IUI sometime next week.

QOTW: We took an amazing trip to California -- we flew into San Francisco, did wine country, stayed at Big Sur, then drove down the coast, hitting Santa Barbara, LA, and San Diego, stopping to see friends and family along the way. It was two of our best weeks ever, a perfect mix of sightseeing, relaxation, and friends/family time.

No update to speak of yet. We're on a forced TTC break due to my lap scheduled for April 15th. We'll go straight into IUI after we get the all clear from the RE.

QOTW: We've only really been on one vacation together just the two of us and that was our honeymoon. Other than that, we enjoy going to my families beach house in South Padre, TX. It's nice and relaxing.
