~*~Tiff (and others with peanut allergy)~*~

Didn't you say Cruz was allergic to peanuts?

How did you start introducting solids to him when it comes to breads or things that could have have been baked in a plant that processes peanuts?

With Will's bloodwork, it showed he had a moderate to high allergy, so now I'm freaked out someone will feed him something accidently and he'll choke to death (not that I'm a worry wart or anything Embarrassed).

Re: ~*~Tiff (and others with peanut allergy)~*~

  • Cruz has a moderate to high allergy as well but we haven't ever run into a problem with things being made in a plant that has peanuts. He was about 12 months when we found out so he had already been on some solids. When we give something new to cruz I always watch him closely for 5 minutes after to see if his face starts to get blotchy, if it does we do benedryl right away. We haven't ever had that happen. The only times have been when i gave him pb for the first time and he started to have a reaction so we gave benedryl and he was ok and then when he was about 2 and corey let him have a bite of his butterfinger not thinking and he threw up all over, started to get blotchy and we did benedryl again. I don't allow anything with peanuts to come into our house anymore and we use almond butter instead of pb. His preschool, my mom and I all have epi pens and benedryl on hand. It really hasn't been too much of a problem with things except going to friends houses on playdates, often they want to serve pb & j : (

  • Are your boys only allergic to Peanuts? I know that for me, I started off being allergic to peanuts but am now allergic to almost all nuts... only ones so far that I dont react to are Macadamia and pistachios ... I cant rave enough about sunflower seed butter though!

I cant speak on the solids though, Cam is almost 2 and still not had anything that has nuts/nut butter in it. I hope that isnt gonna bite me in the butt since I have seen that newer research shows that waiting longer can increase the chances of allergic reactions...ugh. I know for myself though that I have never reacted to anything that has the "processed in the same plant that manufactures peanut products.." warning. Good Luck!
