Pregnant after 35

Progesterone suppositories anyone? OMG!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies. I'm losing my mind! Anybody else out there taking progesterone suppositories? I am trying to figure out WHY I'm sooooo incredibly gassy and constipated. I know it's a normal sign of early pregnancy but I've been pregnant 5 times (two went to term) and I know my body does NOT react like this. This is, however, my first time taking progesterone. I'm wondering if this is the culprit. Seriously...I can NOT button my pants and I'm 5 weeks tomorrow. I mean no where NEAR buttoning! I had to use the bellaband today. My belly is hard and the gas in so painful! I just needed to vent and find somebody else out there on Progesterone. Thanks ladies! Sticky vibes!!!

Re: Progesterone suppositories anyone? OMG!!!!!!!

  • I've taken progesterone suppositories as well, and they did mimic some pg symptoms.  I didn't have the symptoms that you described.  But mine were more cramping, and feeling sick to my stomach.... and it didn't matter if I was pregnant or not, I still got the symptoms.

Have you gotten a + on a test yet?  I couldn't tell from your post. Hope you start to feel more 'normal' soon.

  • Oh yes, sorry!  I thought I had a ticker!  (technically troubled, me!).  I'm 5 weeks pregnant but can't even button my pants!!!  So you got terrible trapped gas when you took progesterone?

  • I've got no personal experience with them... but gas and bloating is listed as a side effect.

Check with your OB and see what meds he recommends to combat it. I usually do the gas-x chewables when i have gas/bloat.

     Hope you feel better soon!!!

  • Yep, been on them both pregnancies and aren't they just wonderful (note the sarcasm).  Don't get me wrong, I would do it again in a heartbeat to make sure the babes are OK.  But, yes I was so bloated I swear I looked six months pregnant and only 5-6 weeks.  It was unbelievable!

Hang in there, it doesn't last forever :)

  • I took them with this and my last pregnancies. They didn't give me gas or constipation issues but I was really nauseous on them. I didn't really mind them as much as everyone else seems to, not that I enjoyed it, I just tried to not think about it. I found the 12 weeks went by really fast this time and I'm thrilled I will never have to use them again! Good luck to you!
  • I agree with the PP, I never had the bloating or the gas, but then I really don't get those things when I am pregnant anyways....maybe they just make the symptoms you would have gotten more intense?!?!?  Just guessing.....

But it will pass in 7 weeks, when you go off them......I hope.

Don't feel bad about not having the ticker thingy on there...I still can't figure out how to do mine, and haven't had the time to sit down and figure it out.....I am just throwing in the towel!!!

  • I can finally stop taking them as of today.  And yes they did cause me to me to be gassy, bloated and constipated.  It did get better the longer I used them.  i am so happy i can finally stop taking them.

    Thanks for this!

Thanks for all your replies!! Yes, ladies!  It's good to not feel alone in this plight!  It's SERIOUS!  I'm so incredibly uncomfortable and finding hard to figure out how to keep the pregnancy under wraps (since my history of c/m).  What are you guys doing about "sharing the news"?

  • YAY for you tlc!  Congrats on your 2nd trimester!!  HEY, are you guys not seeing my ticker?

I am on them. They make my boobs hurt a lot. I am not really bloated, but I do feel super gassy!
