Repost from 0-3: Naps

Do you wake your LO from naps after a certain amount of time or just let them sleep until they wake up? We obviously don't have a set nap schedule yet, but he does take one of his naps at the same time every day (between 1 and 1:30) I'm just not sure how long I should let him sleep and whether or not I should let him sleep until he wakes up or wake him. Sometimes he wakes up after an hour to an hour and half, but other times he sleeps much longer. Just wondering what other moms out there are doing. TIA Smile

  • I've been trying to because i started to notice day naps becoming longer and longer and night sleep times shorter and shorter. Now I try to wake her up every 2 hours-usually with diaper change etc. attempt to nurse her.  then sit her back down if she falls asleep again fine but if she stays awake we play...tummy time, play mat, etc. and go from there.

  • Yeah I do somewhat.  I'm trying to get her to nap around 3 pm until 5pm.  At 5, I turn the swing/vibrator off and then unswaddle her & let her wake up on her own from there.

  • If Sully naps longer than three hours during the day I wake him, but this may be leftover from our serious Day/Night reversal. I suppose I am afraid if I don't wake him he will not sleep at night!
  • My pedi suggested not letting him go longer than 3 hours without nursing during the day, even though my chunker was WELL above his birth weight at 2 weeks. I also dont' like him to be in a wet diaper any longer than that anyway.... its an added bonus that shorter daytime naps seems to lead to longer night time sleep.

  • DD rarely sleeps longer than 2 hrs during the day, but i think i'd wake her up if it had been 3 hours. However, i've noticed that when she doesnt sleep enough during the day, she's overly tired and doesn't sleep well at night. She sleeps much better at night when she's had some good day naps.
