Pregnant after IF

IVF ladies- OB dating pregnancy

So I called this morning to make my first OB appt and the first question the lady asked was when my LMP was.  I laughed cause I have no idea.  I know the exact date of retrieval 1.0 and 2.0 as well as my transfer but not my period.  So anyway, I explain that I did IVF and that I know the other dates but that my due date is Halloween and that I'm 8w1d today.  She says ok and uses her little wheel thing to figure out when my LMP was based on my due date.  Sounded about right so we went with it.   Then later she says "well, according your your LMP you won't actually be 8 weeks until next week".  *facepalm*  We just went through this!  So I re-explain that I'm positive that we know the due date based on the fact that I know what day I got pregnant, to the hour, so she said fine and went with it.

My question is, am I going to have to fight them the whole pregnancy because of that stupid LMP date they have down?  I know in the scheme of things it doesn't matter, but it was annoying to go over it 2x with this lady and I don't want to deal with it my entire pregnancy.  I also wanted to take their wheel and tear it up since it more than likely assumes that I ovulated on the 14th day of my cycle:P

Sorry, vent over:P

Re: IVF ladies- OB dating pregnancy

  • I have heard that people have this same "argument" over and over with their OB. So what I did to mitigate it right away was to subtract 14 days from my ER date and told them that was my LMP. And it worked! :)

  • i have seen this issue on the board before. luckily (or unfortunately) my OB must see a lot of IVF patients, b/c she said for me she would calculate my due date based on my retrieval date, and that was that.

i hope your conversation today was the last of the run-around on this!

  • My OB was fine with my due date from my RE.  Plus, the baby has always measured right on with its gestation age.

But I do know they still use that wheel - like when I wanted to know how late I could fly - she asked my due date, spun her wheel and told me June 4th.

  • My RE sent paperwork over with the EDD based on my viability scan.  I told the nurses at my OB/GYN office how I'd done IVF (paperwork hadn't gone in yet) but they still wanted to know the date of my LMP.  Luckily, the 2 dates matched up so it hasn't been an issue for me.

TTC #1 since 7/08 After 3 years, 2 losses, 3 rounds of IUI, and one round of IVF, we finally have our dream come true! DS born 7/30/11

TTC #2 off and on since 7/12

  • I made up a LMP date and gave that to my OB.  She wrote that date down for the nurses but because she has a background in IF she understood the whole dating based on ER date.  I have only had 1 issue so far with a nurse and my OB ended up telling her (very firmly) that my date will not change because we did IVF.

We didn't do IVF, but I did go through this conversation with my OB's office, over and over and over again. Then I got to have a repeat with the MFM office that did our NT scan.

Once the OB did an initial ultrasound and that fell in line with the dates I gave him, I didn't have any issues.  I did have problems with the MFM office and scheduling my NT scan since they wanted to go by my LMP which would have been way too early to do the scan.

  • Hmmm... interesting question!  They haven't really asked since our first visit, because we're now into growth scans at each appointment.  Our technical due date is 8/3 (based on IVF), but with twins, they won't allow us to go past 38 weeks, which if we use 8/3 as a barometer, that would be 7/20.  At our last two appointments though, they've been measuring between 2-4 days ahead, so it could be even earlier than 7/20.

I wouldn't worry too much about it -- as long as you're in the ballpark!  Big Smile

  • I haven't been to my OB/GYN yet, but fortunately my ER was on CD 14 after my "period" from stopping BCP.

  • I was prepared to have this argument/discussion/disagreement with my OB based on other posts I have seen on here. luckily my OB deals with IVF patients frequently enough that she actually said "any measurements on your ultrasounds will not change your due date. this is what we will go by" and it was calculated from my IVF dates as well as taken from the info from my RE. I hope your future appointments go smoothly and you don't have to explain your EDD every time!
  • Hopefully there won't be an issue.  I just looked at the paperwork that the RE wants me to take to my OB and it clearly says I'm due Oct 31st on it.  Just thought it was funny how a minute after explaining my situation, it was so confusing again cause the wheel didn't match up!:P

  • My OB works with my RE a lot and just took the date they provided.  I also told them I didn't have a period, which I attributed to the lupron and everyone just said oh that makes sense.

  • I've also heard of people constantly having to put up with this argument too...how frustrating it must be! Our OB goes with our ER date and has never questioned it. Sorry you are having to deal with this, but hopefully it will "click" with the office soon :)

  • Ha! If my OB went by LMP, I'd have had the baby in 2009.
  • We had this arguement with our OB's office as well. We see the OB, practitioner, and u/s techs at diff times and I have to go over it EVERY time. For some reason, they STILL have me 2 days behind my actual due date ---- so everytime they say you're this far along, I correct them. Then they tell me it doesn't matter. Is it soooo hard to fix the records? lol
