Does anyone have thoughts on the difference between the Neighborcare/Group Health birthing center and the UW birthing center (other than the different providers, of course)? I visited the UW but also heard good things about the Group Health BC.
I delivered at Group Health on Capital Hill and loved it! Anytime soneone asks about it I say the same thing; while I didn't have the birth experience I planned for, they made every effory to make it happen and when I needed an emergency c-section, they made the experience the best they could. I thought it was awesome that my H was able to carry our son from the o.r. to our room and not once was he taken out of our room. I loved it!
I also delivered at GHC Capital Hill. LOVED IT. I had wanted to go med-free, but ended up with an epidural after being in labor for 3 days. My experience was amazing. I was still able to feel contractions, had the urge to push, but it wasn't painful. Our L&D nurse was fabulous. She was such a calm presence and was VERY helpful with breastfeeding, and being there if we needed her, but not telling us what to do or looming over us. After LO was born she suggested that we let Lily "crawl" to my breast. It was amazing!! From the moment she was born she was on me. They cleaned her on me, we took our first bath together, and they didn't even weigh her until she was 3 hours old. Anyhow, I am considering changing insurance before I have LO #2, but I am strongly considering staying with GHC just so I can deliver there again. If you go with GHC ask for Nurse Maggie in L&D!
Thanks for the responses!! I really liked the midwife I would work with if I deliver there, so if it doesn't work out with the birthing center I'm planning on, I'll feel much more comfortable switching.
