Lyla is so hard to get to sleep most of the time. It started after she became "full term" and it hasn't gotten much easier. We've gotten all of her health issues straightened out that could have been causing her pain (reflux, dairy allergy) but now I don't know what the problem could be. She has a hard time settling down, it seems like she's very hyper, her arms and lets don't stop moving when she's nursing and I'm trying to get her to sleep. Then some times she screams and cries and just refuses. Sometimes it takes me hours to get her to sleep. We try different things like walking around, wearing her, nursing, etc. We have lovies, sleep noises, and what not. I've tried the NCSS and NCNS and haven't seen any results yet. CIO would be our last resort, but I really don't think it will work for her and I don't know if I could really do it. Anyhow, just wondering if anyone else's preemies have a difficult time going to sleep and if there are any suggestions anyone has!
Re: Difficult sleeper anyone?
We've been there...pretty much since he came home (10 mo/7 adjusted). He's on reflux meds and is often sick...so I could never try CIO...But getting him to sleep includes swaddling, nursing, rocking/bouncing/patting....over and over. I don't have any solutions, and I'm getting pretty tired of this!
The only thing I've tried recently with some success was the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders aquarium - he can focus on it, it calms him down, and twice he fell asleep on his own with it.
Have you heard of a Woombie? I've heard a bit about it - zips up to swaddle/contain arms & legs, but is stretchy, so baby can stretch out against it (like in the womb).
Good luck! This too shall pass...
