When do LO's start to have "formed" BMs? DD (20mos) has never had a formed BM-they are always very loose. I never thought anything of it, figuring it was normal. Today was the first time she had a BM at daycare. When I picked her up, the daycare provider was like "I just want you to know that she had a very loose BM today-just letting you know so you can keep an eye on it". I'm sure she had a regular BM....Now it makes me wonder-are her BM's normal or is this something I should be worried about? Like I said, I thought things were fine, but maybe having loose stool isn't the norm? For more TMI....it's not diarrhea (watery), but like a stew/chili consistency (sorry!).
Re: A Way TMI BM Question (I'm warning ya!)
DD has had formed bms since the weaning process began from bfing. There was about a week or so transition as she got use to cows milk, but after that, it was always formed. Also, if she eats a lot of fruit they are softer as well.
I would bring it up at the next pedi appt (so at her 2 yr appt). I wouldn't go in special for it. But maybe they would want you to save a day or so worth of diapers and have it at a lab to make sure there is not an absorption issue. Her growth has been following the curve right?
She eats tons of fruit! I'm wondering if maybe it's a lactose thing?? Hmmm..
As for growth, shes always in 90th % for height. Weight has been 10% consistently since she was about 6mos old.

lots of mush here!
once and a while we get a nugget, but this kid lives on fruit so i haven't been concerned. and while he's always been low on the chart her never sits still so there's no way to fatten this kid up. he's also always been pretty regular, you can almost set your watch with his poops.
Charlie's didn't take shape until around 2, and even now they are a bit soft (but he goes on the toilet) He is also a big fruit eater
I think it just varies by kid
