Two Under 2

Was your 2nd born early?

My OB is sort of small-town and old-fashioned, and he told me to stay close to the hospital after 32 weeks because with babies this close together, it's more likely that you'll go into labor sooner respective to your EDD.

Just wondering if that's based in fact, or more of an OWT.

  • 32 week thing seems really early...I couldmunderstand if he said after 36 weeks. But anyways, that's not the case with me...had to be induced AGAIN!

  • My OB told me that I could go late again and that having a second one so soon does not mean I will go early. 32 weeks seems really early for your doctor to be telling you to stay close. I am almost 38 weeks and have been sitting at 2 cm dilated for 2 weeks now and have a feeling I will not go early.

  • OWT for me. I had DD at 39w4d, and that was only because I had a scheduled c-section.

  • nope- she came right on her due date.

however labor came on it's own & she was out within 6 hours (from start to finish)- so it was a lot quicker.

  • A year apart and ds2 came 8 days before EDD.

  • DS2 came before his due date, but I wouldnt really say he was early. He was born 5 days early, I was 39w2d. DS1 was born on his due date.
  • With DS I was induced at 40w 2d. With DD (my second) I went into  labor on my own at 39 weeks, HOWEVER my labor with DD was 12 hours, and that with my son was only 8.

  • Well I have other reasons for having to stay nearby, some cervical issues, etc. It's just that the way he said it it sounded like more of a general belief as opposed to specific to me.

I love that my docs believe in OWTs. It makes me feel more... homey? Is that the right word?

Thanks for your responses though, I was really curious!

  • I'm guessing OWT, but in my case it was true.  DD2 came four days early, whereas DD1 came right on time.

  • 1 day early.  Does that count?
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • Mine were 19 months apart. #1 was 9 days overdue and #2 was 3 days overdue before we scheduled a c-s (first was CS so we couldn't induce). And my due dates were accurate b/c I was charting.

  • Mine are less than 12 months apart.  I went into labor on my own with DD at 38w2d.  I had to be induced (GD) with DS at 39 weeks.  He showed no signs of wanting to be born at that point, so I really doubt I would have gone before my EDD had we waited.
  • My boys are 2 days shy of a year apart. DS1-  I was induced at 39w1d. DS2 - I went into labor on my own at 38w2d.
