Food suggestions for outdoor party

We are having Arlo's birthday party at an outdoor shelter at Winton Woods at the end of April.  I'm struggling with ideas for food that don't need to be really or hot or cold.  I'm not planning to have lunch sitting out all day, but it will be out for an hour or two.  We have access to a grill so I suppose we could grill as ppl arrive, but that would put my DH behind the grill for a long time.  It shouldn't be very hot out, but I do worry about having food sitting out for a long time.  What do you think?

ETA: It is an owl theme party, if anyone wants to try to play off of that.

Re: Food suggestions for outdoor party

  • Could you maybe grill the food the night before and then heat it up on the grill as people arrive?

  • I'd probably just do sub sandwiches, but I'm "food party" lame like that.
  • I have some fancy pampered chef/tupperware stuff that has freezer inserts to keep the bowls/veggie tray/etc cold for hours. I would maybe get something like that to do regular party snacks: chips n dip, veggie tray with hummus, fruit salad, with some subs or grilled burgers/hot dogs.
