I will be CDing for the first time and have heard from a few old school CDing moms (40-50 years ago CDing moms) that diaper rash is more common. Is that still true with CDing now a days?

Rash with CDs is often less common than in disposables.
The key is to minimize the chance for irritation. Which means more frequent diaper changes (every 2-3 hours), etc.
And the best advice I got was that no matter how hard you try, your LO will likely get a rash at one point or another. Either from moisture, or eating something new when you introduce solids, or a host of other things you really can't control.

This is so true! I've found that frequent diaper changes and regular air time keep the minor stuff at bay, but it is definitely inevitable that some irritation will occur.
I used sposies the last 2 times and one sone had diaper rash quite frequently no matter what I did. So I am not so worried that it will happer or never happen. I just wanted to see if it was more or less common. If it was more common I would make sure to change LO's CD more often. Sounds like I just need to play it by ear, same as regular diapers.

I'll be a new CD'er in June, and my mom said the same thing, that cloth causes more diaper rash. She CD'd with my sister and I, and she said I got rashes all the time. But, I think she really had no one to turn to when she had issues with CDs, so she was just winging it. We lived in a really rural area back then and she wasn't close with her family. It seems like today with the web and everything we have more ways to figure out problems. Like, when my mom was talking about rash, she was like, "I would put Desitin on you every change and it didn't help." I told her I'd read that you weren't supposed to use Desitin with cloth diapers, and she had no idea.
nope. it really depends on the baby, their sensitivity, what they are eating, the type of cloth (some babies have sensitivities to microsuede diapers, for example, and other have sensitivity to the chemicals in disposables), etc.
My baby has maybe had diaper rash twice, once with cloth, once without.

It tends to be less common. DD had a major issue with rash when she was a nb, but she was sleeping 4-5 hours a stretch (in a PF and PUL cover) so that was her problem. Once I figured out what I was doing, rash has seldom been an issue.
I think there was a study showing that diaper rashes have become MUCH more common with the widespread use of disposable diapers. Like you should just assume it should happen if you use sposies.
