Our dog's name is Maggie. I've always loved the name, but the Simpsons were pretty popular when we got her and we thought we could never have a Baby Maggie, so that's what we named her.
I've always loved the name Jack, but our last name starts with "Hoff--"so that's out the door! (say it fast - you'll see what I'm saying) Consequently, I think Jack may be our next dog's name. ![]()
Re: Anyone give their pet a name they loved but could never use?
We named our puppy Zara. We both loved the name but couldn't really picture it on a person.
Harriet, always reminds me of ``So I Married an Axe Murderer.``
Me too.... hahahaha. the main thing for me about that name, and I think I feel this way becuase of a character in Jane Austens Emma movie starring Gwynyth Paltrow, Harriett Smith is her friend that she is introducing into society... I think of Harriett as this red-haired ugly girl... I just couldn't name my child that.
Aww, but she ended up happily married and she was beautiful on the inside.
I named my car Hermione.
Our animals don't really get "people" names. Our oldest cat is Anubis, our youngest cat is Nargle, and our dog is Luna. (Yeah, we've got a HP theme going for the younger two that will continue if we ever get another dog - Winky [f] or Wrackspurt [m].)
Baby Name Popularity by State
I know a lot of people who have named their pet Zoe/y. It drives me crazy b/c my DD is Zoey and I don't like when I tell people her name it's followed up with "that's my dog's name!" I tried to give my pets non-human names but as it turns out my cat's name is Reese (named by an ex-boyfriend) which obviously exploded in popularity in the last 10 years or so. The cat is 12.
