tell me about the nosefrida

how does is work?  is it really that great - seems like i've heard good things, but so far have only used the nose bulb thing, which DS hates...wondering if this would just be a great improvement.

Re: tell me about the nosefrida

  • Basically, there is a tube, and one end goes into the baby's nose and the other in your mouth, and you suck the snot out. There's a filter so nothing gets in your mouth.

It definitely does work, but I usually only use it for major congestion. Saline spray works really well, too.

  • we got one as a gift from a friend who swears by it and LO hates it just as much as he hates the nose bulb thing, but it is SO much more effective! the concept is pretty gross, but the snot that you suck out actually doesn't even come close to the filter...it's a great little contraption!

  • Yes it is great.  I've been using it twice a day for a week b/c of DD's congestion.  She doesn't necessary like it when I do it, but it takes about 2 seconds for her to calm down once it's done... I think it dawns on her that she can actually breathe!

  • Lurking from 12-24, but I had never heard of this, and was just imagining someone like me who hadn't walking in on someone doing this. Haha the image, the confusion. I am glad you explained that the snot doesn't come near your mouth, but it still must look strange. It does, however, sound like a good idea. More efficient than the nose bulb.

    Loving this mommy thing!
  • We love the nosefrida and so does LO. It's one of the best baby item we've ever bought. It comes with an extra filter but the snot doesn't even get any where near to the filter so I've never replaced it. It is non intrusive unlike the bulb and so much more efficient because you control the suction. My LO cried the first time I put it next to her nostrils but now she smiles and lets me do it. It's the easiest thing to do for her and she smiles from the relief she gets I'm guessing. I'd try it and return it if it's not helpful, but it's a bestseller so I think it'll work.

Saline didn't work for us, and LO hated the application of saline.

  • thanks everyone - sounds like something DS needs...  but i have to ask - the concept of sucking out the snot myself is weird.  how do you know how hard to suck?!  i don't want to suck his brains out!!
  • Haha you start slow and then increase if necessary. I never sucked too much because I didn't want to startle her or anything. If you can still see stuff, spray saline to soften it up, then use the nosefrida. My LO only has problems with the gooey snot, sooo it's always been pretty easy to remove.

    HTH GL!
