Using belly balms or lotions yet?

Hi Ladies!  I was just wondering if any of you had started using belly balms/lotions to help combat stretch marks yet.  My tummy hasn't really expanded much, or "popped" yet, but I imagine it's probably a good thing to start using these creams to moisturize the skin sooner than later!

For those of you that use balms/lotions/creams...what kind do you recommend?

I am so in love with my precious little miracle!

Re: Using belly balms or lotions yet?

  • I use the Belly Butter stuff, I started using it as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I also used it with DD and never got any stretch marks on my belly with her. I did get them on the back of my legs, like under my butt, so this time I'm putting the butter on my boobs all the way down past my butt.

  • You can't really fight stretch marks. If you're going to get them, you're going to get them. They start from the inside out. Its always good to moisturize because as you stretch your stomach will be very itchy, but don't hold your breath on any oils/creams/lotions preventing stretch marks.

I use Bath and Body Works Body Butters to moisturize.

  • I have read that stretch marks are genetic.  You will either get them or you won't.  So, I've just been using regular Jergens lotion to combat the itchy stomach.
  • I put lotion on, but I don't believe that it's going to help with stretch marks.  If you're going to get them, you will no matter what.  A lot of it is genetics.  I used lotions all the time with my first son and still got them.

  • I just keep mine mosterized with regular body lotion (with Vitamin E). However, lotion doesn't really prevent stretch marks. Heredity is responsible for those.

However, it helps with the itchy skin from stretching.

  • I've just been using regular lotion as well - my mom never got stretch marks so I'm HOPING I inherited that gene!

I do have some bio-oil....word to the wise - if you put it on, don't plan on getting dressed afterwards! I should have realized that it wouldn't soak in or anything, but I put some on after a bath and was getting ready to go out, it wasn't drying so I patted it dry and got dressed, but it still soaked through my top and I had to change before I went out! So don't use it if you plan to put on anything you don't want to get oil on!

  • I put lotion on my stomach even when I'm not pregnant. My skin is kind of dry so I just always have.

Stretch marks are apparently genetic though- so it shouldn't make much of a difference.

  • I have only because this is my second, it feels great and my skin is SO dry - I LOVE Bella B Tummy Honey Butter it literally melts and lasts all day!!
  • Yeah, nothing really helps for SM so I am just trying to combat the itchiness.  I use L'Occitane Mom & Baby Balm on my tummy and boobs.

  • I use Nuby natural touch streatch mark cream. It goes on smoothly and i love it. The only thing is it doesnt stop the itching. For that I use Aveeno's oatmeal bod wash meant for dry itchy skin. That stuff works miracles, so im not itching in public. lol
  • I've been using either Palmer's cocoa butter lotion or Burt's Bees hand salve since the beginning. My family isnt really prone to getting stretch marks, but I find that it fights the itchiness of the growing belly..

I too have been using the belly butter once in a while and regular Cocoa butter lotion all over my body.  I haven't really gotten any stretch marks yet, but the stuff feels really good on my skin so I keep using it.

  • As a bunch of PPs said, genetics cause stretch marks, not baby.

But I am still using Palmers Skin Therapy Oil from my boobs to my bum. It smells great and feels great and I am not itchy at all since starting to use it.

  • I use an organic body oil from Nature's Paradise and I've been using it since about week 6. BUT, I'm pretty sure it's a losing battle. I got stretch marks on my hips and thighs just from going through puberty (and my skin didn't stretch that much!), so I think I'm destined for them.

  • I use bio oil. I used it with my last pregnancy and did not get stretch marks. I am prone to them and my mom and sister got them bad. I will be sticking with the bio oil again.
  • I have been using Nivea Intense Treatment with Vitamin E for several weeks.
