Starting to build up a fairly large stash for when I return to the office in May. For moms who store larger amounts of BM--what's your way of storing it??
I have been placing the frozen bags in a large zip lock bag and labeling them with the month the bag was pumped. There are some who do a gift bag system. I believe the directions is on a video on you tube but I can't remember the name of it.
I freeze them flat in the Lanisoh bags and when the month is over will put them in a ziploc together (I just started building my stash this month).
I have a very small freezer though so I'm limited on just how big my stash can get, and may have to start borrowing freezer space at my husband's grandmother's house next door!
Dee,
Mommy to: Sofia, born 2/9/11, as well as three dogs, two cats and a multitude of chinchillas.
I use bags specifically made for bm storage - I use the lansinoh brand, but there are a few out there. They're medical grade & BPA free, so it's worth it to me. I label each bag & when i get a gallon ziplock bag full (I'm a weirdo who doesn't freeze flat), I reorganize so that the oldest is on top. I use mostly fresh expressed for daycare - pumping one day to feed the following day & then freezing o Friday, defrosting an older bag for Monday so I can rotate my stash. I also pump directly into his bottles.
are you all using the freezer bags made specifically for BM and then putting them in ziplocs???
yes, i use the lansinoh bags to store the breastmilk. i happen to have a tupperware that is rectangular and shallow, so i lay the bag down in there to freeze. when i have 2-3 bags, i transfer it to a ziploc or hefty freezer bag.
I lay them flat to freeze then store them upright with the oldest in the front.
Honestly I have only used my freezer stash one time though so building it was rather pointless, lol. I am going to end up donating it.
I do the same and keep in a deep freeze. I will rotate out my stash though so that if I need it later down the road, it wont be expired or super old. My dream would be to wean at 9 mo and have enough of a stash to get him through a year.

Re: Working moms-what do you store frozen BM in?
freezer bags - takes up less space once frozen flat. i store the bags inside a freezer ziploc bag too.
i don't have a large stash - i use mostly fresh expressed milk for daycare.
