I meant to ask my doctor this today, and I've found little help from Dr. Google.
I was born six weeks early with 30 minutes from onset of labor symptoms to delivery. My genetic half-brother was also born early (details unknown). I'm adopted and know very little about my genetics.
Does anyone know if this is genetic? I've heard that "like-mother-like daughter" about a lot of things regarding pregnancy and wonder if this is one of those topics too.
Re: Is pre-term labor/early arrival genetic?
I am going to assume that it depends on the reason for early delivery. There are lots of different causes for early delivery.
As far as early delivery for no known reason, I'm curious about that also. My sisters and I were all 2-3 weeks "early"...born full term but still before the due date. Then again, back then, due dates were probably not as accurate either.
I am totally opposite from my mom. I have loss 3 babies and had DD1 6 weeks early.
I really don't think it's 100%
I'm the fourth girl in my family of six and the third to have a child. None of our labors have had any patterns or any similarities to our mom's.
I've been told by docs that it CAN, but not that it WILL.
My DS was just like me, and also had to be delivered by c-section for the same reason, and also early, for the same reason. (breech, with the head stuck up underneath the ribcage... she was scheduled for a c-section, but started labor within a few days of the scheduled c-section... DS did the same thing.) Our pregnancies (my mothers with me, and mine w/ DS) were as different as night and day, though. This time around... my pregnancy is a lot like my mothers' was with me, according to her... but who knows how the birth will go.
