Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Do you consider your LO hyper?

I think DS is kind of hyper. He gets into everything, climbs onto everything, has to make huge messes in the bath actually he has to make huge messes everywhere, he refuses to sit still and if he doesn't want to nap he jumps up and down in bed while laughing. I seriously feel like someone gave him speed and forgot to share with me! I know part of this is just toddler stuff and he is excited that he has found his mobility but I am so jealous of his energy!

Is your LO incredibly active?

Re: Do you consider your LO hyper?

  • Landon is not so much hyper as busy. He is constantly doing something or getting into things. he does leave messes in his wake everywhere too!

  • Mine is the same way....part of it I though was b/c he's a boy, but then I just met another boy who is so chill. He is a few months older than DS and he really doesn't do anything.

Mine will get into/onto anything and everything! he has never just "fallen asleep" like I see others do in their high chair, etc. he's just always on the go!

I wish I had half his energy and now that I'm pg...I'm pooped all the time!

  • Yes!  My DH comes from a VERY large family and they all say that they've never seen a child as active as my older DD.  But, as my mom predicted for years it is just paybacks, I learned this when my FIL laughingly asked my dad if he had ever seen a child as active as DD and my dad just laughed and said, "yes-her mother!"  The way I look at it, I'd rather have my crazy one be my first so that way if the subsequent children were more calm I would appreciate it more instead of being shell-shocked if it was vice versa.  FTR- younger DD is more calm (still fairly active though) and it's lovely.
  • DS never stops moving. He is always running around, climbing on stuff, etc. Sounds like a normal toddler to me!

He wears me out and by the end of the day I am so ready for bed.

    Is your 2nd one hyper?

I think it is often the norm in this age but I do know there are more active/thrill seeking toddlers and there are more reserved toddlers. Silas wont even sit and read a book or watch tv. the only time he sits still is when he is sleeping, eating or strapped into his carseat he even hates the stroller for the most part.

this is Lucy for the most part....though she loves books, when she watches signing times she is still standing/dancing, not sitting.

No, my 2nd isn't nearly as hyper as my first. She's definitely active but in a much more manageable way. The older one we call the Energizer Bunny because she is "on" from when she gets up until she goes to bed. I will say though the older she gets the more she's able to wear herself out and naps better now than she ever has. The good thing though, is unlike a lot of kids she's always been able to skip her nap (especially when she was younger and didn't nap) and it not affect her mood too much.

Yep, this is DS but replace signing time w/Sesame Street!

These days I can barely get him to eat because apparently sitting in his chair is pure torture.
