First & last name ending in same sound?

Last name is similar to Fletcher.  Does that pretty much mean any name ending in -er is out?  I find myself liking alot of them, would it really be that bad if they didn't sound at all the same otherwise?

    I wouldn't do it, personally.

Thanks, I never noticed that in the sticky.  I guess at the time it didn't matter to me :)

  • I wouldn't do it, personally, either. EX: Parker Fletcher seems too much. Our last name ends in -ton... Let's say it's Wellington. I would never choose anything that ends in -son or -ton. Madison Wellington is a no-go (not that I like Madison at all) same with Mason Wellington or Eaton Wellington.

  • I have this same problem with my last name. I have a "-man" last name. So pretty much anything that ends with -en, -in, or -an is out.

  • we've had the same issues. I adore Harper, Oliver, Xavier ... all out, due to our last name ending in a grr sound.

  • For me it would mean those names are out.  We have a similar problem, our LN ends with the "ee" sound.  Names like Emily, Lily, etc. are out.

Me too. Gideon and Arden are two of my favorites that I had to scratch.

  • We are also an -er LN.  I think pretty much all -er ending FN's are out, but some "may" work.  You just have to come up with something and see.

  • My name is Robin and my maiden name ended in 'man'. I thought it flowed well. I guess it just depends on each individual combo. I wouldn't go with something too matchy. My married name rhymes with Shoes so we have axed names like Luke and Drew because they just don't sound good with our last name.

  • I have the same issue. The only name we can semi-agree on for DS 2 is Sawyer. Our last name sounds like Cl-eye-ber

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I was dead set against using Sawyer when I was pregnant with Jackson because of the -er endings but, finding a name is so hard for us!

  • It depends on the first name, some would sound alright but most would sound a bit strange

I wouldn't do it. I've crossed off all names that end in an "een" sound.
  • Depends on the number of syllables in the last name.

I totally agree with this. Most first names ending with -er are two syllable, (Fletcher, Ryder, Sawyer, Porter) and with a 2 syllable last name it's very sing-songy.  But if the syllables vary, I think you may have a shot.

    Agreed!

We have a two syllable last name ending in "an" so most names ending in that sound are out since most of them are two syllables as well. But, my first name ends in the same sound, and although it took some getting used to when I first took my husband's name, I think it's alright because the syllables vary.
