NBR: Pet owners,recommend your vacuum?

We have 2 cats who seem to shed all.the.time!  We also have a baby so I'd love any recommendationd for a good vacuum for pet hair.  Our house is mostly tile but there's carpet in the rooms. TIA!

  • We have a Dyson Animal, which rocks! Our lab sheds like no tomorrow. It wasn't cheap but we got it from Bed Bath and Beyond using a 20% off coupon. That was 6 years ago and it's still going strong. Everytime DH empties out the chamber it's like a whole dog in there, there is so much hair! Great vacuum.

  • We have an Oreck.

I like it and it seems to work great for all the hair that our yellow lab sheds. Plus, it's light.

  • We have a Dyson Animal also.  I love it!

  • We have a dyson that rocks with a German Shepherd and cat. I cringed over the price, but really, with a baby crawling around soon and wall to wall carpet, it's the best money we've spent. I vacuum every other day and the bin is pretty close to full each time- gross.

  • I would love a Dyson, but can't afford to spend hundreds on a vacuum.  We had a Bissel pet hair eraser and loved it at first, it crapped out on us at about a year and a half though, just wouldn't suck and we checked every possible place for clogs.  We now have a Hoover wind tunnel t, I think is what it's called.  I really like it, it does a great job.

We have a Miele canister.  I got it over the Dyson because we have all hardwoods and I've heard of Dysons wrecking hardwood floors.

I can't believe I spent what I did on the vacuum, but I love it.  We have two cats who have more hair than I know what to do with and it works great.

  • Thanks all!  We have been looking at the Dyson Animal, but worried about the $.  I'm going to see if I get a 30% coupon to Kohls soon and do that.  Hopefully it will work well on the tile.  Any of you gals use it on tile?

  • I have the Dyson Animal, too.  The price was high but after I was replacing $100 - $150 vacuums every year and a half I realized I was wasting more money than what I would be spending on the Dyson.

I still have the same lab and two cats (one long haired) when I got the Dyson 5 or so years ago and it still works great.

  • We have the DC28 Animal.  I love it!  It is a multifloor vacuum.  I use it on laminate, tile, and my carpet!  Works amazing!  Love it.  You will be amazed at the suction and all the stuff that comes up.

FYI about Kohl's.  They do price matching.  The Dyson's NEVER go on sale.  I waited months.  I got a 30% off coupon and found them on sale at Sears and Best Buy the same week.  Brought in the add and they matched the price, plus gave me my 30% off.  AND they were having their Kohl's Bucks thing going, so for every $50 you get $10 back.  It was a good deal. I found, at least in our area that Kohl's has their Dyson's marked up about $50 above retail.  So definately wait for 30%.

Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice!
  • So glad to see this question. Our vacuum is on the way out and our Pit/Lab mix is a crazy shedder.

  • We bought a rainbow about  10 years ago. They are crazy expensive (about 2000 dollars - you can do a payment plan.)  Anyway, they last for about 50 years and are amazing.  They do everything - floors, carpets, blinds, couches, etc.  They are water powered and when you're done, you just dump the tank into a dollar store strainer over the toilet.  I love it.  But like I said, the price seems insane at first.  Now that it's ten years later and I haven't spent a dime on any vacuum accessories, fixing it, etc., it shows how worth it it is.  Plus, like I said, they have payment plans that are very low.
