Baby Names

Stuck.

We are not having very good luck narrowing our names down.  We have been trying to keep our names pretty hush-hush with our family & friends, so I REALLY need some advice.  My middle name is Jean, my dad's middle name is Gene, my grandpa's name is Gene, & my grandma's middle name is Jean, so that definietly needs thrown in there.  Also, my husband, his dad, and his grandma have the middle name Lee & my sister's middle name is Leigh, so we would like that as well.  Here is what we have so far, any input would be great.  Thanks!

Mackenzie Jean

Kayton Jean (not sure on the spelling & I REALLY don't care for the NN Kate/Katie)

Kendyll Jean

Ryder Lee

Reid...not sure on a MN...?

Re: Stuck.

  •  I don't like Mackenzie. All of the "McNames" make me want to gag. The fact that McDonald's makes me ill probably doesn't help.

Kayton is not a real name. Scratch it.

Kendyll is awful. Really bad. Spell it Kendall and I would just dislike it.

Ryder has too many sexual teasing possibilities for my taste.

Reid is a fantastic name! Name your kid that! Please?

Ditto EVERYTHING above. I vote for Kendall Jean and Reid Middlename.

    For MNs...

  • Reid is a great name. It's also the only one from that list I can vote for.

  • Im with everybody else! Reid stays and start on a new list.

  • I like the use of Gene/Jean for middle names.

I love Reid if it's for a boy.

I have varying degrees of dislike for everything else. Kayton (???) and Kendyll are especially awful.

  • Kayton isn't a name, it looks really .... dumb.  So not that.  Kendyll is a hot mess.  Kendall, if you must.  Personally, I'd scrap them all and start over.  Gina is nice and would honor all of your Gene/Jean family members.

Ryder is nms.  Reid.  Go with Reid.

Basically this.  Kayton and Kendyll are just horrible.  Kendall I could live with.

  • Keep Reid and make a new list.

The use of Jean/Gene is nice with its family meaning.

Reid is an incredible name.. the rest are made up, look hideous and are just really, really awful.

  • I agree with everyone else.  Keep Reid and toss everything else.

For a minute I couldn't even tell if Kayton was for a boy or a girl so please at least scratch it if nothing else and spell Kendall this way if you must use it.

I like the idea of Jean/Gene or Lee/Leigh for a middle name because of the family significance.

Good luck coming up with a new list.  If you want suggestions based on style this is a great board for that.

  • Kayton is horrific and the only person I have ever known named Kendall is a boy. To me its equivalent to Kenneth, and I wouldn't use such a feminine name on a girl. Ryder is a brand of jeans.

Mackenzie is bad, and overused, but not certain death bad.

Please start a new list with Reid and see where else you get.

  • Mackenzie- Cute

Kayton- weird and not cute at all. Sounds like Katelyn gone wild.

Kendall spelled this way is fine but NMS.

Ryder is just okay, I couldn't imagine a 65 year old named this.

Reid- my favorite out of all of them!

  • I really don't like Mackenzie, Kayton, or Kendyll for a girl. They all are definitely NMS. Kayton seems a little made-up and Kendyll should probably be spelled Kendall, and it's still NMS.

Are Ryder and Reid boy names? If so, I say Reid for sure over Ryder. But again, both are NMS.

  • Mackenzie Jean - NMS but okay

Kayton Jean (not sure on the spelling & I REALLY don't care for the NN Kate/Katie) - Never heard of this

Kendyll Jean - I love the name Kendall (as it's my niece), but spelt the correct way.

Ryder Lee - I like Ryder

Reid...not sure on a MN...? - Love the name Reid.  It's MH middle name and will be the middle name of our next child.

  • Ryder should never, ever be considered as a potential name for a human being. EVER. It's absolutely awful. If you can't foresee the sexual teasing that's waiting to happen with this name, then God help you.

Like all PP, I agree that Reid is the only keeper. But I had to get that out about Ryder, seriously. It's horrific.

These are all NMS, especially Kayton and and Kendyll.  I think of a cocky college guy when I hear the name Reid, although I'm not sure why since I don't personally know any Reids.
  • What about putting a twist on Lee and using Leah or Jean and making it Jeana?  This would be a way to use the root word but also make it a bit your own.

I really do like Reid too though.
