how many do you think you need of each of these items:
1) Mattress protector
2) Changing pad cover (we have little covers that go over it so we don't have to wash the whole cover every time)
3) towels and washclothes
4) sippy cups
5) Bottles (I will be breastfeeding and pumping when I return to work in October)
Also, what were good products to have at home before the baby came so you didn't have to go out and get them (vaseline, baby tylenol, gripe water...?)
Re: 2nd time moms... how many of these things do you need?
1) Mattress protector - we had two and three sheets for ds and it was fine
2) Changing pad cover (we have little covers that go over it so we don't have to wash the whole cover every time) i had two covers and then i would fold a receiving blanket (we had a million) in thirds and lay it down the middle. easy to change and not have to wash the whole cover.
3) towels and washclothes- three towels (2 would be fine) and 6 washcloths
4) sippy cups- i would wait on these since you won't need them forever and it took us buying 4 different kinds before we found one we like that didn't leak.
5) Bottles (I will be breastfeeding and pumping when I return to work in October) - i was in your situation and we had about 2-4 tiny bottles and 2-4 of the tall bottles. however, ds was home with dh when i worked, so he just washed them each time, you may find that you need more if your lo is going to be in daycare (depending on how many hours).
Also, what were good products to have at home before the baby came so you didn't have to go out and get them (vaseline, baby tylenol, gripe water...?) vaseline, baby powder, baby wash, baby lotion, pediasure, and you won't need them for a while but also teething orajel, baby tylenol.
1) Mattress protector - 2
2) Changing pad cover (we have little covers that go over it so we don't have to wash the whole cover every time) 2 - used those small pads on top though - same idea you have
3) towels and washclothes 3 towels and about a million (20?) washclothes. i mostly used them to cover my little GUY when changing him. kept the wall, him and me dry.
4) sippy cups 1 package of take & toss (nuby brand i think) is good. we are on our second set now at age 2.5+... he chewed up the tops of the others.
5) Bottles (I will be breastfeeding and pumping when I return to work in October). Used Avent. Prob have 12 of each 4oz and 8 oz. I also pumped and then went to work.
Also, what were good products to have at home before the baby came so you didn't have to go out and get them (vaseline, baby tylenol, gripe water...?). triple antibiotic oint, hydrocortisone cream, several thermometers (we labeled them - anal/oral/etc.), swaddlers, cabbage leaves & whole oatmeal (for you).
how many do you think you need of each of these items:
1) Mattress protector- don't need but I liked it because it made the mattress softer
2) Changing pad cover (we have little covers that go over it so we don't have to wash the whole cover every time)- need. I used the pads on top of the cover, but once the NB stage is over and LO stops peeing and pooing ON the cover, you don't need the pads and just use the cover. I'd say 1 cover is good, but we had 2 and it was perfect.
3) towels and washclothes- washcloths are good but the towels are useless.
4) sippy cups- Need, but at like 6 mos. We have about 10- started with the nub ones with the valves, then went to straw cups and now we're using the Playtex Coolsters. They are more like a kid cup than a sippy cup.
5) Bottles (I will be breastfeeding and pumping when I return to work in October) Need.
Also, what were good products to have at home before the baby came so you didn't have to go out and get them (vaseline, baby tylenol, gripe water...?)
Vaseline is a yes for a circ'd boy. Tylenol is a must, IMO. Never used gripe water, but we needed gas drops in every bottle for LO's pain :-( Don't forget shampoo, lotion, powder and lots of Desitin.
1) Mattress protector: Two. It took a few weeks for me to realize one wasn't going to cut it!
2) Changing pad cover (we have little covers that go over it so we don't have to wash the whole cover every time) Two, but I would also put down a receiving blanket since we had a ton of those, and then I wasn't doing laundry so often.
3) towels and washclothes Probably four towels and eight washclothes. I really don't think you need that many though.
4) sippy cups Didn't even worry about this until he needed them.
5) Bottles (I will be breastfeeding and pumping when I return to work in October) Start with a few and make sure baby likes them. We had so many with DS1 and never even used them because he didn't like some of them.
Also, what were good products to have at home before the baby came so you didn't have to go out and get them (vaseline, baby tylenol, gripe water...?) Wipes, diapers, diaper cream, mylicon.

how many do you think you need of each of these items:
1) Mattress protector- we had 2 and it was plenty
2) Changing pad cover (we have little covers that go over it so we don't have to wash the whole cover every time)-had 3 for dd, but 2 was probably plenty
3) towels and washclothes-towels-3 was a good number, wash clothes-I probably have a dozen or so and use them all the time to wipe faces, hands, not just for bath.
4) sippy cups- don't buy more than one at a time and you won't need them for awhile. We introduced sippy cup around 10 months and it was trial and error which one she would take.
5) Bottles (I will be breastfeeding and pumping when I return to work in October)-I sent three bottles to daycare with pumped milk and liked having three extras so 6 total.
Also, what were good products to have at home before the baby came so you didn't have to go out and get them (vaseline, baby tylenol, gripe water...?)- Infant tylenol (or generic infant acetominophen-dye free), Mylicon, saline nasal spay, diaper cream-something with zinc oxide for diaper rash, Aquaphor, shampoo- we use Burt's Bees or California Baby because we all have sensitive skin and dd has eczema.
