Napping/Sleeping Schedule

So I keep reading on here that people are pumping during the baby's 5 hour nap.  I have an occasion where my son will sleep for 4-5 hours in a row (very rare) but never know when this is going to occur.  He just sleeps whenever he feels like it I guess--which is rare bc it seems like he fusses all the time.  Am I the only one out there who isn't even close to knowing that their LO's "schedule" is???

I would love to pump during a long nap but I never know when that particular nap is going to be long.

Re: Napping/Sleeping Schedule

  • I never know when DD is going to sleep for a long stretch. Sometimes she seems to sleep all morning, then the next day the eyes pop open every 20 minutes. I usually will get everything ready and pump as soon as she falls asleep. I figure I have a better chance that way.

  • My LO doesn't really have a schedule either. My LC told me to pump after my First morning feeding ans my last evening feeding. I've been doing that which has been allowing me to build up a pretty good stash. Maybe give that a try?

Nope I don't have a clue what the day time schedule will be like.  I don't mind that either... as long as she sleeps at night, I'm fine.  And this is what I do in terms of pumping as well.  I freeze 10-12 ounces per day.

  • I don't think it's very common to have a baby taking 5 hour naps consistently.  Does someone on here seriously have a baby taking 5 hour naps?!?  That would worry me--that seems like too much sleep without eating for a baby so young.  We don't have a schedule at all.  Every time I think we're getting a schedule set up, she changes it up on me.  Usually A will take one good nap mid-day that will last about 2 hours.  And then a bunch of catnaps throughout the rest of the day.  But then today the "good nap" only lasted 30 minutes, and what I thought was a catnap has turned into about an hour.  I can't figure out when to pump at all.  I have 1 bottle with 1 oz in it right now in the fridge.

Yes my LO really does take a 5 hour nap from 12-5pm and is up from 5-7 then sleeps from 7-12 for the night, eats back to bed up at 4 eats back to bed up at 7.  Like clock work every day.  And he is gaining weight just fine.
