Anyone have or have used a birth plan? Where did you find yours? I have heard the one here on The Bump is good. I also used one from PregnancyToday.com but I am unsure about what the plan is really for. Does the hospital have to follow it?
I can't remember where I got the template for mine with DD.
They have to follow it, to an extent, but having it written on a piece of paper when you walk in will not be enough. You and your partner will need to speak up for your wishes.

I don't remember where I got mine either, but I did give it to them. the things that were really important to me I voiced so they knew about them. And the nurse did read over it when we check in.
Our hospital (Health East system) had a template, so we used that. My husband hung it on the bulletin board in our birthing room when we arrived at the hospital and the staff followed it to a T (Saint Joe's).

Have you toured your hospital or birth center yet? I would highly recommend doing so as you may find several things are standard procedure. I have a good friend who is a L&D nurse. She said to make it as simple and clear as possible. (One page with bullets.) Also, make sure your DH/SO is very familiar with all the wishes and can speak up if something changes quickly. She said it is not always realistic to stop and read multiple pages of a birth plan.
Have you checked to see if your hospital offers doula services? It would be a way for you to have someone that isn't "emotionally attached" to you that will help advocate for you and share you birth plan with the rest of the "birthing team," especially anyone that joins the "team" later in the game.
LIke others I don't know where mine came from. I had a "book" (1 page Birth plan, all our other papers in 3 ring binder) I give to the nurse (she commented on how well I had put it together ). If you would like to see mine feel free to PM me I show it to you.
