High-Risk Pregnancy

Vasa previa?

Anyone else with this condition?  We just found out last Wednesday at our detailed ultrasound.  We will follow up with another ultrasound at 28 weeks and will likely be hospitalized at 34 weeks and deliver via C-section at 36 weeks.  I know it is very rare but I am curious if anybody else is experiencing this as well.  I am grateful for the technology to help determine this, otherwise the outcome would be devestating but it is still difficult not to worry or be a little scared knowing that the risk even exists.

Re: Vasa previa?

  • My MFM detected a possible Vasa Previa with one of our twins on our last u/s. He explained that it is most likely the reason for the decelerations in heart rate seen when monitoring, however we haven't had any more recently with frequent monitoring. He said it wasn't really severe, just needs to be considered when we get closer to delivery due to possible complications during the birth. I hope you get good news at your follow up! Hospital bedrest is no fun, however it comes with the comfort of having constant monitoring of the baby.

  • I have this & was diagnosed at my 20 week anatomy scan. As of April 21st (32 weeks) I am off work & will potentially be hospitalized on bed rest sometime during the 32nd week. At about week 30, I will receive steroid shots. I think he's looking at delivering by 36 weeks at the latest, but will be doing amnios to check for lung maturity. It's awesome that it was caught for both of us! And remember, any bleeding, go straight to the ER. Good luck!
