Hello ladies,
Who knew picking out a diaper pail would be so challenging???
I'm torn between 3 pails: diaper genie elite II, Diaper Dekor Plus and the Munchkin Arm & Hammer.
I've done extensive research and have come to realize you either hate these pails or swear by them. I like the concept of baking soda to deodorize and don't have an issue with paying for refills. The biggest complaint I've read about the Munchkin is that parents find pushing the poopy diaper through the opening can be messy. Based on the youtube video reviews, I don't see the issue.
Does anyone have first hand experience with the Munchkin pail? Is the opening an issue? What about odor control?
Thanks so much!
Re: Munchkin Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail
We have two of the Munchkin A&H pails, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and we love them! We have never had an issue with odor at all.
The baking soda seems to last a long time - we haven't had to refill either of ours yet and it's been 2.5 months (I suppose I should check if they need to be shaken which the instructions say they may need occasionally). Also, you don't need to buy the refills for the baking soda part, only the baking soda.
I love the refill bags - one box probably lasts 3 weeks for us. With a lot of diaper pails, when you pull out the bag full of dirty diapers, each diaper is sectioned off so you have this weird, awkward diaper caterpillar. With the Munchkin pail, the bags seals itself when you close the top so there's no odor, and unseals when you open it so you can put another diaper in - so it keeps odor in without having to section off each diaper.
As far as pushing poopy diapers in, we don't have an issue. You don't have to push very hard to push the diaper into the pail (unless you're overfilling the bag). When you remove LO's diaper, you just make sure you've secured it good with the diaper tabs so that nothing is leaking out. Occasionally when we have a bad blowout diaper, I will toss it in a plastic grocery bag before pushing it into the diaper pail. I just keep a few bags near our changing station.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone

I had it and HATED it. We never had an issue putting poopy diaper in it but once the bag was half full you couldn't close it without it making this horrendous grinding/popping noise.
My advice is not to bother with a pail just get a trash can with a lid. You can sprinkle baking soda in it if you want to.
We also have the pail and I love it Ours did make this LOUD grinding sound too but its from overfilling the bags. I just put some WD40 on the plastic gears and its worked perfectly and quietly since.
