DD has thrush just on her tongue, no where else in her mouth. At 4 week appt (done at 5 weeks) the Dr. gave her a prescription that we've been giving her 4x a day - admittedly we've missed a couple, but we're pretty good abt it. Its just not improving at all. She actually has two tiny little spots that are like a brownish color. I called the Dr. today and nurse said to wipe her tongue with a wet washcloth after every feeding, give it a few days and call back if it still doesn't improve. Any one else have any suggestions? TIA!
Re: Thrush suggestions
Ditto the washing paci's thing. I would use one paci a day, and boil it that night. Same with breastpads, if they've been leaked on even a little I change them. Let your boobs air out for 20 min a day too. It's good to let them air out, yeast hates to be dry and can't survive if the nipples aren't moist. After you nurse or bottle feed, smear some of your breast milk onto your entire nipple and areolas. Try to keep up with the meds that were given to your LO. It was hard for me to keep up with it too, but our thrush cleared up after 4 days and we continued using it til the end of a whole wee as per the doctor's orders. We still have some Nystatin left, and I have it in my cabinet in case we get it again.
Be patient! We are on week 6 of Nystatin. I steralize all the nipples (only use 3 for now) after every feeding. I do the same with his paci.
I should mention that Xander had very strong antibiotics for 7 days after birth and has bounced between the yeast infection down below but has had the thrush since he came home from the hospital. This is probably why his is so stubborn and isn't clearing up easily.
