I think baby moved back up

I noticed last night that I couldn't take a deep breath (still feel like that today). Also, the movements feel very different, like he is very close to the surface, if that makes sense.

Re: I think baby moved back up

  • That sucks. Maybe the baby just had a growth spurt and is longer? I asked my husband last night to help me get this baby out! So he pushed down on my stomach... maybe that would help Big Smile. Hopefully he hasn't moved back up and that he just moved into a better position getting ready to be born.

  • Hey, happy due date to you!  When is your next doctor's appointment?  I don't have any advice about the moving up, but hopefully they can tell you something.

Thanks! We're leaving in 10 mins for the dr.  I am really, really hoping for some good news- I'm a little bummed today.

  • I had thought my LO had moved up, but it turned out quite the opposite happened and she was lower and engaged. I think it was that she was stretching her feet out more and still getting up into the top of my stomach that way. Hopefully that's the case for you too!
  • I had a similar experience somewhere around 39 weeks.  I woke up one morning and noticed I was carrying a little higher than I had been.  I asked me doctor about it, but she just told me that the baby has never been fully dropped down, so I guess it was a subtle difference.  They can move up and down I've been told.

Good luck at your doctor's appointment today - let me know how it goes!  I'm still in the same boat here, but I'll see my doctor later on today.

    Hi Lauren,

I've had no progress (surprise, surprise) and am still not dilated or effaced at all.  I did have an nst and he said everything was good. The dr. was discussing whether to have me in for an induction this week or next and I said I preferred sooner rather than later. My reason being is that I honestly feel like I'm not going to dilate on my own. I forgot to ask him about the fibroids, though.  I know the risk of a c-section is greater if I'm not favorable for an induction, but I don't think I'll be favorable next week either. I had ptl at 29 weeks with very strong contractions. I am so thankful that I didn't dilate then, but now I'm wondering if I just can't dilate on my own. He's going to call me later and let me know. Please update me on your appt.

  • You know - I had ptl too, at around 32 weeks, and I didn't dilate at all.  My doctor theorized the fibroid could have brought that on (she said she was just speculating).  It was VERY painful, but I haven't had anything like it since.

My doctor hasn't made a plan for inducing yet - and she is open to letting me go as long as 42 weeks, which is frustrating because I also feel like this isn't going to work on its own and I'm really starting to struggle with still being pregnant, although its more emotional than physical.   We'll see what she says today!

I'm also torn if I do end up needing to be induced or have a c/s when I'm still at 0.  I'm not sure if there's much point to going through the induction process, although it does seem on occasion women can be induced at 0 and still have a vaginal delivery, so that gives me some hope.

We've seemed to have parallel pregnancies!  My dr. also thought the fibroids brought on the ptl. I also was hospitalized at 19 weeks and 22 weeks due to severe pain (and bleeding at 22 weeks) also probably due to the fibroids.  I've been on moderate bedrest since that episode at 22 weeks and had to go on medical leave.  I have been so stressed this entire pregnancy which is driving a lot of my desire to get him out asap.  At the practice I go to, they don't let pgs go beyond 41 weeks, so it would definitely either be this week or next for me.

Also, my sister had 3 c-sections (1st one was breech, then 2 repeat c-s). She told me that she never had one contraction or dilated at all with all 3 pregnancies.  I was also a c-section baby. Maybe the women in my family just don't dilate??? They didnt have fibroids, though.

  • Wow - I'm sorry, it sounds like you've had a really hard time.  I guess I've been pretty fortunate - I haven't had any bleeding, and I'm still able to work (although that's partly just the nature of my job, which isn't too demanding and not remotely demanding physically.)  I was out of work for a week when I went to the ER around 16 weeks in intense pain, and discovered it was caused by the fibroid.  I was somewhat uncomfortable for about a month afterwards, but was able to get by.  And then in January the ptl scare.

I think we should be able to dilate and have a baby even with a fibroid - but I don't know.  I guess fibroids are a leading cause of c/s and have been for a long time, although usually the issue is the fibroid blocking the birth canal.  I'm actually ok with c/s if that's what it needs to be.

But the end is near - and it sounds like you will have your baby as soon as this week, so that is great news!  I'll let you know what happens at my appointment.

The other thing is that I had a m/c and d&c last April. I wonder if I have some scarring on my cervix from the procedure.

Anyway, good luck at your appt.  Can't wait to hear  your update.
