Duggars!!!

What is your take on the Duggars?  19 and counting...

I don't know how they do it.    I have started taping the show, but it seems like those kids are just little slaves.   The parents seem very nice, but I am only on my first episode, so I am just making a presumption at this point.

  • Um yeah. MH wouldn't be allowed anywhere near me after...say... 5 kids.

    Her poor body. ::Shudders::

Those poor kids, how can they feel special? How can they each get bonding time with their parents? I mean, I know there are kids out there that have it much worse, but does that make it okay?

  • eh, they aren't hurting me, so i don't really care.  they aren't on gov't aid (although I do realize they get a lot of $$ from TLC through their show), the kids seems happy, they are clean, fed and have a roof over their heads.  I was one of 5 and had to help "raise" the younger ones, so that aspect doesn't really bother me either.  It's just a fact of life in bigger families.

True...I think TLC pays them quite a nice salary for their time, as well.

My mom was one of 8, but 19??  And counting?  Sheesh!
And yes, I cannot imagine her poor body.

I agree with this. I have 5 siblings and it is hard enough to get my mom and dad alone for an afternoon let alone a phone call some days. My mom works really hard to make time for all of us. I cannot imagine have more sibs than I already have. I love my big family, but with 19 someone has got to get lost in the shuffle at some point.

  • I don't have an issue with them per se, but after all of the health problems that their last baby had, I think they should probably stop having kids. And personally I think having kids younget than your grandchildren is just weird.

  • Honestly, I'm waiting on some kind of scandal. It seems like all reality TV stars eventually have one. It seems almost inevitable these days.

I guess I don't get it. It just seems at this point they are continuing to have children for attention. There has to be a point where a woman's body has just had enough. There has to be a point where it isn't safe for her to continue....

  • I LOVE the Duggar's. After you've watched a few episodes you'll see that they do take time out to make each child feel special, they are very sweet, and their children aren't lacking in anything (not that is shown on tv anyway). I've never seen any of the older siblings seem bothered by helping out with their siblings. They do all kinds of things to save money too that can be useful to anyone. Personally I wouldn't have 19 kids if I were responsible for repopulating the earth but nothing in my experience has led me to believe that it is my path to conceive as many children as god will allow, however that is the Duggar"s belief. I think its an adorable show if you can get past the fact that Michelle Duggar has spent a good portion of her adult life pregnant lol.

  • I will shamelessly admit that I like watching the show. It is not my lifestyle & some of the decisions about "No dancing" and the courtships only being decided by the father are a little bit bizzare to me.

  • That many kids is not for me, but they do seem happy and healthy so I don't have anything really against that part. What I dislike is their roles for women. Their girls are raised to be mothers, not to be educated or have any sort of career. The boys don't seem to go to college either, so it doesn't seem like education is a big enough push.

I sort of agree with this part of it because my BF's mother is getting 2 embryo's implanted on Saturday and I think its completely strange but in her case her youngest child is 18 so I think that makes it a little different than if she had other children in between. If the implantation works my child's aunt or uncle will be 4 months younger than them.

  • I watch it. I think they do have some good messages. Most of their children want to be ministers and I know one daughter is going to classes to become a midwife. I don't know what you need to be a midwife. She has a lot of experience with her mother. The oldest son does own his own business. One of the other boys is a volunteer fire fighter and I think one of the daughters. I know one boy for sure.

I know the reason they changed to no birth control because she was on birth control after the first or second baby. They lost a baby and were told it was because of her previous birth control. They decided then they would let god decide.

What is creepy is watching Josh and Anna in their courtship. You read their story on their website (which is way to long) it is interesting. You see them in an episode in car practically having what I called hand sex. They kept rubbing their hands together because all they could do was hold hands and give the side hug. At their wedding he practically sucked her face off. It was a bit disturbing.

Aren't they Mormon? That does seem to be a standard part of the faith...

I don't have any issue with it. I my friend is Catholic, and is against birth control. They are leaving it all up to their God. I know another Catholic family in our area that was the same, and they had 9 children, which is a very manageable amount IMO. Yeah, you have bigger families, but I think the Duggers are at the extreme end. Most people who don't use BC get families that huge.

For me, Idk what we're going to do. I refuse to ever get my tubes tied (sorry, but if its not medically necessary, I'm not going to surgically change my body), but FI is all for getting a vas someday. I want to get some sort of IUD after the baby's born (if I can and still BF), and go back on the pill after it's weaned. We conceived this baby while on the pill, and neither of us like condoms, so we're looking into other forms of BC for the future. But to each his own...
