Hi ladies
I need some constructive but honest help - my DH LOVES the name Randi Jane for a girl. I am hesistant. Although the name has significant meaning - my uncle was Randy and he was one of the most important people in my life, one that literally changed the direction I was headed and SO special to both DH and I. With that being said I am not sure I LOVE Randi Jane for a girl... Could you please advise on the remaining choices?
1. Randi Jane
2. Audrey Ruth
3. Eva Ruth
All to go with a last name that is similar to Dodham.
Thanks!!
Re: Randi for a girl?
I dislike Randi very much. The sentiment is good, but the name isn't.
Sorry.
Audrey Ruth and Eva Ruth are both gorgeous! I'd give the edge to Eva Ruth - so pretty!
ETA: The suggestion of Miranda by the pp is excellent! Miranda Ruth would be lovely.
This. Miranda is a lovely name and can be nn'ed Randi easily.
Could you save the name Randy for a boy? Then if you end up having another girl, use Randi then.
FWIW, I do know a Randi. She's a gorgeous girl and was very popular in school.

IT'S A GIRL!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
I like the sentiment but Randi is not a good name for a girl. How about using it as a middle name?
Eva Randy
Jane Randy
Oscar born October 2011
Miscarriage at 8 weeks (August 2013)
DD due September 1, 2014
I love this idea!
Can you ladies think of another name that we could use Randi as a nn? There is already 2 Miranda's in the immediate family?
But I love the idea, thanks!
Hmmm. Tough one. The name Brandy has a similar sound?
Honestly... the word "randy" is British slang that has a sexual connotation to it. I know most Americans won't "go there" but... it's the first thing I thought.
That alone would have me shelve it as a stand-alone name (Randolph or Randall for a boy at least seems more dignified). I know that different people have different associations with names, so it may just be "me" but wanted to say something "just in case."
Some traditions honor loved ones by using the first letter of their name. Something else to consider.
Could you not use Brandi as pp suggested? Very similar to Randy/Randi. Or wait until you have a boy (if that's in ur plans)
Of the other names you posted, I like Eva but not a fan of Ruth at all.
I like this idea as well.
Even though one of my best friends is a Randee Renee, I just can't get behind Randi for a girl. It sounds too much like Candy.
Go for Audrey.
I love this idea. I second it!!!

Definitely don't like Randi for a girl, at all. I do like your alternate names. I love Audrey the best, personally, but they're both very nice.
It's a shame you already have two Mirandas in the immediate family because I absolutely love this idea from a pp. It's such a beautiful name and I think it totally works here. How immediate are these two other Mirandas? heh heh
I did try to think of some alternate names that could be shortened to Randi as a nickname, but couldn't think of anything that didn't make me go bleck. Sorry.
A couple pps suggested Randi as a middle name, or even waiting for a boy, if that's what you guys want. I think that's what I'd do if I really couldn't get past it. But, if you don't have a boy, I still wouldn't use Randi as a standalone first name for the next girl. That's just me.
I don't know if there are any...

Another vote for Miranda with the nickname Randy.
Though I like Eva Ruth best from your list.

I like how you want to honor your uncle, but I really think Randi on a girl is bad. I'd save it for if you have a boy.
I LOVE both Audrey and Eva. I also like Jane for a mn. I don't care for Ruth.
While Randi is nms for either sex, I totally "get" why you want to use it. I know a couple girl Randi's and it was fine. I typed the letter combination within a name into baby wizard.com and it spit out these:
Saranda
Randilynn
Brandi
Miranda (and different spellings for each)
Growing up our neighbours had a little girl named Frankie after her grandfather that he died right before she was born. It suited her and it was cute.

My makeup artist for my wedding was named Randee, and I loved her, so I actually kind of like the name for girl, because she was so great.
Yes, this.
We joked about doing this for DD -- my DH is named Randy and we loved Miranda anyway.
I know a Randi. She was named after her father, Randy.
I think that if you have a significant meaning, which is seems like you do, it's more beautiful than anything else. At the end of the day though, you have to be comfortable with it.
