how many ear infections til LO got tubes?

how many ear infections/how many months until your LO got tubes in their ears? after the ENT determind that tubes were necessary, how long til LO actually got them? we're on infection #4 since mid-Jan and im ready to request to see an ENT. we've tried 4 antibiotics (amox, cefzil, biaxin, azithromycin) with no results (if it clears it comes right back).

Re: how many ear infections til LO got tubes?

  • We're in the same boat.  We've had 1 single and 2 double ear infections since January and we might be headed back to the doctor today for another one.  Obviously we don't have any experience with tubes yet but I wanted to let you know that we're dealing with this too.

  • DD had 3 in three months and we did the evaulation.  We scheduled the surgery and I was considering not going forward, we went for the pre-surgery check and she had one again so we got them.   She got tubes in early Feb. and after we cleared the one she had at the time, it's been great.  We can use ear drops instead of antibiotics now which is great.
  • My friends DD has had 6 in 6 months which to her ped. it equals tubes. (she is 10.5 months old)

so Ped said 6 infections in 6 months = tubes

  • My DD just got tubes last Monday.  She had 4 ear infections in 6 months, with the last one lasting over a month (it never went away).  We went to the ENT on a Friday and the surgery was scheduled for that Monday.  It was scheduled quickly partly because the Dr. was going on vacation.  I'm not sure if her current infection had anything to do with the quick turnaround time though.  DD was on her 3rd antibiotic for this last infection.

As for the tubes - the surgery went great!  It was super quick!  DD did great! We were only away from her for 30 minutes and the Dr. came out after 20 minutes to let us know everything went ok!  DD even did great coming out of anesthesia!

GL!  Hope your LO feels better soon!  Keep us posted!

  • DS only has had two ear infections, one in November and a double ear infection that started the first week of Jan. that had finally cleared up when we were in on Friday.  We went through 5 different antibiotics plus he received two shots of Rocephin and that seemed to have finally cleared him up.  We have an appt with ENT on Wednesday morning and I'm expecting to be told tubes.
