D.C. Area Babies

Infant Toddler Program

So I procrastinated at daycare research thinking I'd never get a job offer & now I have a really exciting part-time opportunity & I'm scrambling for daycare options.

I'm mostly interested in Falls Church City and Arlington.  I've called just about everyone on Arlington's list for my zip code so now I'm looking at FC.  It seems like Infant Toddler program covers that area.

Despite reading their website, I'm really confused about the program.  It seems like I pay $350 & they find me daycare.  But what if the daycare they find me I don't like or is too far away?  Or what if they can't find me daycare in my required time frame?

I think that some of you have used Infant Toddler & I'd love to hear more about the program.

Re: Infant Toddler Program

  • I don't have any advice re:Infant Toddler, but I do have an in home day care rec if you want it--it's between Rtes 29 and 50, off of Graham. If you want more details, let me know.

Thanks!  You PM'd me the info last week & I'm hoping to get something a bit closer to home.  However, I've written down your place's info & will certainly be calling if these other things don't pan out!

  • I sent you a PM.
  • I started that process and don't actually remember ever hearing of a $350 fee, but I imagine if you did go through it, you only pay if they place you.

They give you a list of daycares and you can specify location. There's also a search feature on the website to give you an idea.  From what I remember, it doesn't give exact locations or telephone numbers, but usually you can find the providers by doing a Google search for their name.

FWIW, we didn't end up going that route because there were no providers in the closer-in Alexandria/Arlington neighborhoods. I recall a few in Falls Church.

Have you considered a nanny share?  It's sometimes hard to find part time, but not impossible.  If you have a neighborhood list serve, that's a good place to start.  I've actually seen a number of emails lately on my neighborhood listserve looking for babies to join share situations, even part time.

I knew I sent the info to someone recently, but my Monday morning brain couldn't remember who...;)

  • I found my DD provider through Infant Toddler and I could not have been happier with the her.  I needed to find someone in a week and they gave me a list of about 10-15 providers and out of all of those there were 3 that we liked.

We recently left because she started preschool but I would use them again if I had too.

  • Oh and the provider we found was in Falls Church right by the West Falls church metro.
  • I just sent you a PM with our daycare provider.

  • We used IT to find daycare for our boys.  The $350 is a fee you only pay once in the begining (admin type fee for all the paperwork, etc).  They provide a list of their liscenced providers and then its up to you to interview and pick.
IT ensures that they don't have too many children in the home, the providers get paid holidays, training sessions throughout the year.  You are also able to negotiate the rate with the provider (IT takes a % of what you pay).
So far, we've been very pleased with our provider.

Let me know if you have any questions!!

I see you're in Herndon.  I'm also considering looking for places in Herndon/Reston as that would be near my new place of work.  However, when I try to do a search on Infant-Toddler, it says they can't find anything in any of the reston zip codes, for example.  Am I doing something wrong?

  • Kastle - have you called them?  I find that they are very helpful in person.  The fee is paid if you decide to use one of their providers and the information they give you about each provider is far more extensive when you call.

I'll try that.  I'm probably an idiot, but I find their site very confusing.

I never used the search function actually, I called and they sent me files w/ info about the providers.  give them a call ... hopefully that is easier!!
