Infertility

Intro

Hello ladies, I wanted to introduce myself as DH and I have recently found out that we are going to need to start IVF treatments. Here is our story... DH and I got married July 20, 2009 and after about a year and me finishing school, we decided it was a good time to start our family.? I went to my OBGYN making sure we were doing everything possible to be successful and she felt a mass.? After testing and ultrasounds I was diagnosed with a Low Malignant Potential tumor which started growing inside of my right ovary and had grown to a 17cm tumor.? A week later I had surgery to remove the tumor which resulted in the removal of my right ovary and fallopian tube as well as 25% of my left ovary and my appendix since they were showing traces of the tumor.? Doctors said that had I been older and done having kids, they would have done a full hysterectomy.? Since I am 24, they only took out what was necessary.? A week after surgery, I came down with an infection and my abdomen filled with fluid.? I am now fully recovered and we have been trying to concieve but with only 75% of an ovary and swollen fallopian tubes due to the infection, our only hope is IVF.? We are in the process of getting our first appt with NovaIVF soon.? Wish us luck!

  • Thank you so much ladies for the warm welcome. I have been reading some of your posts and comments over the last week or so and you are all so supportive of one another and a wealth of knowledge. As much as I wish I didn't have to come to this board, I am excited to start my IVF journey, and especially with all of you. As a new comer who hasnt even had the first appointment I understand the general concept of IVF and have learned some of your acronyms, but is there a cheat sheet for a newbie like me? I know some like RE, ER, ET, and I have caught onto other such as stims, beta etc, but I know there are plenty more out there. Thanks!

  • Hi and Welcome! Sorry you have to be here- but there are some great women here who have a ton of knowledge!

About terminology- here is a glossary: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/blogs/nest_baby_editors/pages/the-bump-community-glossary.aspx  And it is also posted on the bottom left-hand side of the board as "Bump Board Glossary" under the "My Boards" section.
