2nd Trimester

nervous about gift from in laws.

my in laws want to buy the glider/ottoman for the nursery.  I am incredibly grateful for this, it is very generous of them.  I hesitate though becuase they want to buy it at a local store to them, and only at that store.  They live 10 hours away.  So she wants to email me pictures of what they have and let me pick the color.  the store only has one style(which i haven't seen) and will have multiple fabric colors.....

My MIL and I have very different tastes.  She is a small woman and I am more plus size.  Her version of comfortable and mine are very different, not to mention that she prefers anything in an older style and I am a bit more modern.

I just feel like this could end up being a waste, and we could get a chair that we never use because it could be not so comfortable for me, which would defeat the purpose.  I don't know how to say this and feel kinda stuck.,  ugh.

Re: nervous about gift from in laws.

  • Can't you pick one from a national store and ask her to consider that one?  You wouldn't want to her to waste money on a gift you won't like and those custom ones get expensive!

  • how will it come to you?  you could go the "oh I found this one and look how much we'd save on shipping!" route.  Or just tell her you have your heart set on a particular one.
  • Can you not add one to your registry and let he know that the one you want can be found (name of store). She can either pick it up, have it shipped to you, or have it shipped to a store close to you and you pick it up.?

  • the issue is that the store they want to buy at is a furniture outlet owned by their neighbor who gives them a great discount.  They said they would drive it up in their truck when they come visit.
  • Tough call. Maybe wait and see what the store has to offer? If it's really not your style, tell your husband to tell her that you had your heart set on another glider... He could tell her in a way that seems like he's keeping it secret from you so that she could "surprise" you with your pic?

  • Gliders seem to pretty standard on size-- as far as what I have seen-- so I am sure you will be ok- I would just wait and see, hopefully its returnable if you really hate it..

  • I would wait until you see the pictures before you get nervous.  You never know.
  • My brother and fam bought mine at costco.com and it was i think around 220ish including shipping. its a nice glider, I love it..it just got in...let her inlaws know that their are other options that you totally love maybe they will get the hint....
