Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What does baby wear to bed? Sleepsacks? How many to get?

I'm knocking on wood, but I think we might *finally* be done with swaddling.  DD is almost 8.5 months old and Friday night we put her in a Halo sleepsack instead of swaddle and she did OK.  She hardly ever STTN as it is, and using the sleepsack, she did her usual wakeup around 2 AM but nothing out of the ordinary.  We did this again for Saturday and last night and both went the same, so I think we're done with swaddling.

If you don't swaddle anymore, what do you dress baby in for bed?  Sleepsack? Regular blanket?  We're not sure what to do now that she doesn't need to be swaddled.  Also, if we go with sleepsacks, how many should I buy? They're $20 each so I don't want to go crazy.  Can I get away with 2?

Thanks!

  • We have 3 sleepsacks.  2 fleece and 1 cotton.  I picked up the cotton one on sale and figured it might come in handy this summer for a "lighter blanket".  I like having at least 2 though... because then I can just swap them out when I want to wash, etc.  He usually uses one for a few nights in a row and then I swap it.

I've noticed if he wears fleece pajamas and fleece sleep sack he gets clammy.  So we've tried to get all cotton pajamas now.  Those paired with the fleece sleepsack- perfection!

Good luck!  I feel like it was a blessing in disguise when my DS started hating the swaddle at 1 mnth. :)

  • We use fleece sleepsacks.  We have four, but only because they are hand-me-downs.  I think two would be sufficient.
  • Oh I thought I'd add- I prefer sleepsacks over blankets.  DS is pretty good with a blanket, and I dont' worry so much about him suffocating with one, but more that when it comes off him- he wakes up!  He gets frustrated because he can't keep himself covered up.  The sleepsacks are safe, and don't move, and we all get a good night's rest! :)  If it helps they hold up pretty well.  One of my fleece ones was a hand me down that went through my niece and nephew first.  I wash it at least once a week, and it's still in great condition!

  • We have 5 I think.  Most of them we received as gifts.  We have 2 fleece with long sleeves, 2 cotton with no sleeves and 1 aden and anais sack.  If I put her in fleece pj's then I use the cotton sleep sack or the AA one.  If I dress her in cotton pj's I use the fleece or cotton sack.  I am terrible at doing laundry so it is nice to have extra sleepsacks when I haven't gotten to DD's laundry.
  • We have 2 fleece but like PP said, I'd like to get a cotton one for warmer weather. 2 has been plenty (at least it was until our washing machine broke!).

  • We have 2-a fleece one and a cotton one. We use the fleece one now and will use the cotton one in warmer weather. I just use the same one and it gets washed twice a week. I put it over her fleece pjs.

  • DD sleeps in a sleeper, cotton or fleece at night with a sleep sack. We have a total of 3 sleep sacks. 1 small which she no longer fits in, a medium and a large. DD currently fits into the medium sized one although in a pinch, such as two nights ago when she peed all over her sleep sack after her bath, I use the large which is a little too big but not overly and dangerously big. All three of the sleep sacks we have a fleece. Since they are blankets, I only wash them every few days to once a week depending.
  • We have 3 fleece sleepsacks currently and 3 cotton ones should arrive on Wed.  It is getting too warm here for her to do the regular footie pjs and fleece sleepsack.  For awhile I was putting a plain onesie under the pjs.  This spring summer I plan to put her in plain onesie and the cotton sleepsack.  I have a blanket tucked around her if it still feels cold in her room, but she just wraps it around her middle so it does no good keeping her warm.
  • I have one, but we don't use it. He prefers to be free and just wear jammies.

DS twists and turns and flips so much in his sleep (he usually ends up with his head in the bottom corner of his crib) the sack gets twisted around aggrivates him

  • We have 2 fleece, 1 cotton. If DS is in cotton pj's he gets a fleece sleepsack. If he has fleece pjs then the cotton one; and I prefer the cotton against his skin to kee eczema under control. We'll probably get 1-2more cotton over the summer, waiting for him to get a little larger for the large size. Then hopefully by next winter he'll transition to blankets; but he kicks his legs up for self-soothing now and the blanket goes everywhere.
