Parenting after a Loss

Ladies who had PPD...question!

The 16 year old that I've spoke about who just recently had her baby, well, her mom keeps making excuses for her saying that she has the "baby blues".  It's only been a week and I know her hormones are out of wack.  But, she doesn't really want to hold the baby.  She stopped breastfeeding and is only pumping(but her mom says only a few times a day because the girl thinks thats enough), although, she was VERY excited about wanting to breastfeed.  Her mom said she crys a lot.  Her parents wake up with the baby because they "know she's having a hard time".

I went with my friend to do her photos today and she didn't even want to pose with the baby at all.  She didn't want any photos.  Her mom and I had to make her smile so we could get a good shot.

Is this sounding like PPD?  Her mom keeps saying it's the "baby blues".  But, I'm starting to think it's not just her hormones.  She even posts on facebook, "I would rather be somewhere else!" And she says her new boyfriend "is my world".  I know she is young, but I think the stress of being a new mom and pulling her towards depression and I'm really worried about her.  Should I confront her about it and tell her my thoughts?  I've already mentions it to her mom, but she thinks I'm overreacting.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated : )

Re: Ladies who had PPD...question!

  • It definitely sounds like PPD to me. Poor thing....I think you are being a great friend worrying about her. It definitely wouldn't hurt to talk to her about it. You can even give her my contact information if you'd like her to talk to someone who's been there.

I'll talk to her about it first...and if she's open to some help, then I will surely get your information! Thank you so much! : )

  • It could be ppd or it could be her difficulty adjusting to the change being only 16 as well. I think her parents should just pay attention to her actions and give it a little more time.
  • That's really sad.  It sounds like PPD to me.  I hope she's willing to get help.
