Help! Turning to tummy in crib but can't turn back

This week, DS began turning over to his tummy while sleeping. The problem is, when he wakes up and realizes he's on his stomach, he tends to cry and freak out & can't turn back to his back. He'll just cry until I come get him.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could his sleep sack be preventing him from going tummy to back? That seems unlikely, but I have no idea how to help.

Thanks!

  • Mine did that for a little while.  Unless he was hysterical I let him cry and work to figure it out.

It took a few days but he got the hang of it.

  • This happened to us around 5 months.  He knew how to roll both ways, but he just wouldn't roll back onto his back.  I doubt the sleep sack is preventing him from doing so.  We rode it out for a few nights and then he eventually adjusted to being a tummy sleeper.

I let him cry. It lasted a few days, until DS finally just started sleeping on his stomach.

DS still never really likes to roll onto his back even though he can almost walk.

  • DD is the exact opposite - she sleeps on her tummy and will sometimes roll to her back in the mornings and can't get back to her tummy. After a few minutes she gets frustrated and starts fussing - that's when I get her. I keep trying to teach her how to get back over but so far no luck.

  • DD just stopped doing this. It lasted 3 weeks and was hellish b/c she was rolling all night long onto her belly and getting stuck.
