Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Need sleep help!

Ok so a little back story...my daughter has been a great sleeper since she was 5 months old.  We do bath(not every night), book, and bottle then bed by 7:30p.  We recently moved and she has been doing fine since the move but then all of a sudden three nights ago she does not want to go to bed.  She is tired when I give her the bottle and she seems to get some sort of energy after the bottle. She finally falls asleep about 9 or 10.  I have tried many different ways to get her to go to sleep including CIO, laying with her, rocking her...but nothing is working.  you should know she does take a nap in the AM and PM but I am not letting her sleep more than 1 1/2 hours.  Please help, any suggestions would be great.  TIA!

  • I would say it probably has to do with the new environment. Have you tried spending extra time in the new room throughout the day to get her comfortable with the new environment?

  • Usually sleep issues come when there is about to be a milestone...I wouldnt think it was moving because she was fine when you first got there...Is she pulling up? maybe an unaided step or two is coming... she might be getting some teeth- or maybe she is going to say a few words..the couple nights before Lorenzo said "cat" or "keys"- he woke up a few times in the night...

another thing I had to do was actually move Enzos sleep time back for a while..I had been keeping him up b/c Dh was working late but I found it made him over tired and to move his bed time back to 630 to "re-set him"...He now goes down between 7-715...

Good Luck sleep issues are the worst!

  • Maybe it's a growth spurt that has her sleep messed up.  Or she might be teething?  I'd give it some time to work itself out before you worry too much.

  • Maybe LO is still being affected by the time change? Hope it works out soon for you though! Can be frustrating for sure!

  • assuming you've been in the new place for more than just a couple of days, i think your issue is the lack of consistency in which you lay her down. pick one way to put her to bed and stick with that one way no matter what.

  • Let her nap longer. Sleep brings on sleep. It's strange, but it works. When DD gets less then 2 hr of naps she doesn't go to bed well because shes over tired and over stimulated. So try to let DD nap as long as she wants. If that doesn't work after a week try something different. good luck!
